Stretching from the Pilbara Region in the south to the Northern Territory border in the east, the Kimberley Region manages over 3,800,000 hectares of land and water on behalf of the Western Australian community. Visitor highlights include Purnululu, Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek national parks, as well as world class marine-based experiences including Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef.
The region has two major Work centres: one in Broome which accommodates the regional office and West Kimberley District; the other in Kununurra (East Kimberley District).
We currently have an opportunity for a Ranger (Marine) - Mayala Joint Management to join our team.
Under the immediate direction of the Senior Ranger (Marine) – Mayala Joint Management, this position:
- Participates as an alternate member of the Mayala Joint Management Body and liaises directly with Traditional Owner partners to facilitate cultural and operational management strategies.
- Assists in the management of the Mayala Marine Park within the Buccaneer Archipelago in the West Kimberley district in joint management with the Traditional Owners.
- Carries out programmed operational activities and field logistics for lands, waters, wildlife, cultural and natural resources under the department's control in the district.
- Carries out marine park patrols for the purposes of raising public understanding of marine park values, regulations, compliance, management intervention, research and monitoring, as directed.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check and a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

- A written response addressing the four (4) requested criteria below (in no more than four (4) pages).
- A current CV, including the details of two referees with one being a recent or current manager/supervisor.
Selection Criteria
- Ability to participate in (Grade 1) and implement (Grade 2) operational plans and works programs associated visitor management and natural resource management with an emphasis on the marine environment.
- Good interpersonal skills with an ability for (Grade 1) or experience in (Grade 2) patrol and enforcement activities, and liaison with the public, commercial tourism operators, community groups, Indigenous groups, other government agencies and stakeholders.
- Knowledge (Grade 1) and experience (Grade 2) in the logistics of vessels, and the operation and skippering of vessels up to 12 metres in length requiring a Coxswain Grade 2 (NSCV Near Coastal) as a minimum certificate of competency, holding such a certificate and able to work within confined spaces (liveaboard vessels), and remote areas for extended periods of time.
- Knowledge of and experience in Aboriginal culture and evidence of ability to understand and work with Aboriginal people.
