We're seeking an exceptional individual to step into the vital position of Senior Ranger, where your dedication will directly contribute to making the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley. As Senior Ranger, you'll be a crucial guardian of our unique natural environment and the wellbeing of our residents. From enforcing important legislation like the Dog Act 1976 and the Cat Act 2011 to spearheading community education programs, your daily efforts will ensure the protection of amenities and promote good governance across our diverse Shire. You'll patrol our stunning town sites and broader areas, identifying non-compliance and taking action on issues ranging affecting the community. This role demands integrity, transparency, and a deep respect for what our community has to say.

And what an incredible area you'll get to explore While based in the vibrant town of Derby, your duties will extend across the Shire, notably requiring travel to Fitzroy Crossing, a journey of 260 kilometres, with opportunities for overnight stays. Please note that this position is based in Derby with a salary from $99,515 including generous allowances plus superannuation (12% & up-to 7% Council matching), and 5 weeks annual leave, subsidised housing, vehicle usage and relocation assistance. This is a great opportunity to develop your career while making a meaningful contribution to the local community. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Senior Ranger (alternatively email for a copy)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  1. Hold a current unrestricted C class West Australian licence.
  2. Provision of a current National Police Clearance.  A Police Clearance is required to be maintained with this position and held current every three (3) years.
  3. Available to work an agreed roster (including on call) which may be over any seven-day period.
  4. Sound interpersonal, public relations and customer service skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels and work in a team environment.
  5. Demonstrated team leadership, problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills.
  6. Proven time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, and be well organised.
  7. Comprehensive knowledge and experience of core procedures and practices for Ranger Services activities.
  8. Knowledge of relevant statutes together with the application, investigation and prosecution in State and Local law enforcement.
  9. Knowledge of court procedures in relation to Ranger Services activities.
  10. Good level of computer literacy and proficiency including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, email and internet applications.
  11. Training and experience in animal handling, firearms use, emergency and fire support.
  12. Regulatory Officer Compliance Skills (ROCS) 1 & 2.
  13. Working   knowledge   and understanding   of   the   operations   and obligations   of Local Government practices and procedures.
