The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role

This is a newly created role to enable DGS to roll out SAP SuccessFactors to 3 Victorian government departments and seven government agencies as part of DGS's mission to improve government services for everyone. You'll be part of an innovative and collaborative team entrusted with delivering a vital shared service for over 4,000 employees and driving significant efficiencies and productivity gains throughout government.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Senior Payroll Controller is responsible for supervising two Payroll Controllers and ensuring fortnightly pay runs in SAP SuccessFactors (Employee Central Payroll) are run accurately and on time. Supervising a team of two Payroll Controllers, the Senior Payroll Controller ensures pay run reporting, third party payments and reconciliations are completed in a timely manner following pays and oversees the End of Year payroll reporting process.

Key Accountabilities include

  • Drive operational performance and service excellence within the payroll controller team and monitor performance of the team against defined key performance indicators (KPIs) and quality standards.
  • Provide strategic leadership and supervision to payroll staff to ensure the efficient delivery of professional payroll services in a high volume environment utilising SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Platform (ECP) and Employee Central (EC) modules.
  • Ensure all payroll activities that sit outside of SAP SuccessFactors (ECP & EC) are managed, recorded and resolved in the Salesforce or other service management system.
  • Using highly specialised knowledge and expertise, drive and develop payroll process improvement to ensure specific business requirements are met and efficiencies gained.
  • Oversee the management of third party payments, bulk payment processing, superannuation processing and finance reconciliations and salary recalls.

Mandatory requirements

  • Experience and excellent proficiency in the use of SAP SuccessFactors (Employee Central Payroll).
  • Significant professional payroll operations experience in payroll management and administration within a large and complex organisation including outsourced payroll services.
