The Solution Architect is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality, scalable, and secure technical solutions that align with business goals and architectural standards. This role requires a hands-on architect, coming with a strong technical background, who can actively contribute to development efforts, guide engineering teams, and ensure solutions are designed and implemented effectively and in line with industry best practices. As part of a team of Technical and Solution Architects reporting to the Head of Architecture you will be in a key role bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Define current, intermediate and target state architectures that align with enterprise standards and business strategy
- Lead the design and documentation of solution architectures, including Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), Solution Design artefacts and reference blueprints
- Collaborate with delivery squads to resolve architectural challenges and ensure implementation progresses on time and within budget
- Work closely with Principal Engineers, Technical Leads, Infrastructure Engineers and Business Stakeholders to ensure architectural alignment and business value
- Analyze and interpret existing codebases to inform architectural decisions and define modernisation roadmaps
- Design solutions that are scalable, resilient, and leverage modern technologies—whether cloud-native or on-premise
- Identify reusable patterns and drive their adoption across teams
- Ensure solutions meet performance, security, and compliance requirements, particularly in financial trading contexts
- Evaluation of new technologies and practices, keeping up to date with industry trends.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years in a Solution Architect or similar role
- Proven hands-on development experience (e.g. Java, .NET, Python, or similar)
- Strong experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures
- Good foundational knowledge of the Software Delivery Lifecycle (SLDC), with detailed understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, observability tools and full stack application development
- Experience of multiple architectural patterns (monolithic, microservices, containerization, event driven, API's etc)
- Exposure to financial services would be beneficial but not mandatory, with experience in trading systems being ideal
- Ability to understand complex codebases to support system modernization demands
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and DevOps principles
- Deep knowledge of API development, event-driven architecture, microservices, integration patterns, and secure service design.
