Introduction

Your Role
The Department of Defence is seeking a high performing leader to fill the position of First Assistant Secretary Financial Performance and Management (FAS FPM) in the Defence Finance Group (DFG). This position reports directly to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO, SES Band 3) and has seven Branch Heads (SES Band 1s) reporting to it. The FPM Division is geographically dispersed, consisting of over 460 Australian Public Servants.
As a key senior executive within the DFG, the FAS FPM has a crucial role in advising and supporting the Minister for Defence, the Secretary of Defence, the Chief of the Defence Force, the CFO and Defence Executive. You will deliver a high level of professional support to clients in relation to financial management and reporting and ensuring business outcomes are achieved. Your Division will be responsible for delivering value added services to both internal and external clients. The FAS FPM is responsible for providing client facing finance business partner services and advice to support financial decision making across Defence. The Division also has responsibility for managing the financial aspects of Defence's Integrated Investment Program (IIP), including maintaining and ensuring the control of project approval records in system as well as managing the Biannual Programming updates to the IIP. The role will also provide financial risk management advice to the CFO and Defence Investment Committee.
In the role of FAS FPM, you will be responsible for leading and driving the implementation of several reviews and projects that support improved planning and financial outcomes for Defence's budget program, including delivering a costing framework that enables Defence to make informed capability acquisition decisions.
You will exemplify the One Defence Leadership behaviours and engender a culture of innovation, collaboration and agility. At all times you will remain cognisant of the legislative and ethical frameworks in which you operate. You will be a team player committed to working across government, with industry and with international partners in pursuit of the national interest.
