Work Type: Fixed-term - Full-time
Salary: $138,631 - $185,518
Grade: VPS 6
Occupation: Education and training
Location: Loddon Mallee - Greater Bendigo
Reference: VG/DE/VATL/1882840
Two fixed-term roles from 01/01/2026 – 30/06/2026. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play an important role in the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (Academy). At the Academy, we are passionate about meaningful and exciting work that has an impact on education and student outcomes. Our shared purpose is to create and offer evidence-informed professional learning programs, events and initiatives designed to take Victoria's highly skilled teachers and school leaders from great to exceptional and advance the quality and status of teaching and school leadership.
About the Division
The Regional Division operates seven Regional Centres (Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Moe, and Shepparton). The Division is responsible for the design, development and localised delivery of teacher and school leadership professional learning. The teams undertake engagement with government, Catholic, and Independent schools and sectors to provision professional learning that is aligned to high-quality Academy standards across the state.
The Regional Division works closely with the Academy's other Divisions for seamless participant support and customer service, overarching end-to-end program management, learning space and technology management and coordination of statewide program delivery.
About the Role
Two fixed-term roles from 01/01/2026 – 30/06/2026
Ready to take your leadership to the next level? We are looking for two people for the following two roles:
- Manager, Bairnsdale Regional Centre
- Manager, Bendigo Regional Centre
In this role, you'll have the unique opportunity to shape the professional learning and networking of teachers and school leaders across each centre and their surrounding areas — and to lead work that directly contributes to improved outcomes for students across all school sectors.
As Manager, you'll be at the forefront of strengthening teaching and leadership practice in regional Victoria. You'll lead the local design, development and delivery of professional learning aligned to the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership's legislative objectives to:
- improve outcomes for students through specialised teaching and leadership excellence programs
- increase equity of access to professional learning to lift the quality of teaching across Victoria
- raise public awareness of the capability and status of the teaching profession
- provide a pathway for exceptional teachers to contribute to school and system improvement
- and improve the quality of school leadership.
This role is central to the Academy's mission, with a particular focus on engagement across Catholic, government and Independent school sectors to ensure inclusive, high impact learning for all educators.
The Manager, Regional Centre will:
- provide leadership to the Academy's Regional Centre team, Regional Division and Academy executive
- lead a team responsible for the design, delivery and continuous improvement of professional learning programs and supporting resources across each centre and surrounding areas
- guide program development through all phases — from procurement and planning to implementation and evaluation — ensuring strong alignment to the Academy's strategy and the Department of Education's goals
- build and sustain trusted relationships with school leaders and sector stakeholders across government, Catholic and Independent schools
- work closely with Department of Education regional staff and local stakeholders to support strategic planning and operational excellence
- plan and report on utilisation of the Regional Centre, ensuring effective resource management and targets are met
- manage the physical facility to provide a safe and welcoming experience for visitors and staff
Given the important role this position holds in supporting the delivery of professional learning at the Regional Centre, we want to be clear about the on-site requirements. While flexible work options such as part-time or compressed hours may be considered, on-site attendance is required when professional learning is delivered. Accordingly, the full range of flexible arrangements may not be available. Work outside of the VPS ordinary span of hours will be required when the centre is booked for events.
Capabilities
The role requires the successful candidate to demonstrate a range of capabilities at a senior leader level, including the ability to develop authentic relationships, work collaboratively with peers and executives, identify solutions to complex problems and continuously improve processes, while remaining focused on delivering an exceptional customer experience.
The work program within the role is cyclical but requires adaptation and innovation at times and is reliant upon the successful candidate being able to identify process improvements and efficiencies.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Proven ability to effectively engage and build positive relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders through effective communication and exceptional consulting abilities.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of professional learning, project and contract management, stakeholder engagement and public policy procedures and frameworks.
- Effective leadership of people – both directly and indirectly – to achieve common goals.
- Experience in translating organisational strategy into operational actions.
- Tertiary qualifications in education or public administration.
- Experience working in a school-based environment.
