Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Akaysha Energy Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year
The world is making the shift to cleaner energy, slowly. The planet is changing, fast.
That's why Akaysha builds, owns, and operates the most powerful mega-scale battery storage solutions of today, and it's why we'll continue to build more.
But what we are really building is a better future for everyone we share the planet with.
With a 30GWh+ portfolio spanning APAC, the Americas, and the EU and a global team of over 200 - Should we slow down, or should the world catch up?

As a Senior Legal Associate, you'll be joining the Legal, Risk and Compliance pillar, which supports Akaysha's operations as a global corporation across every phase of the asset lifecycle—from design and build through to ownership and operation. Overseeing regulatory compliance, contracts and IP, risk, governance, insurance, and transaction support, the team has recently delivered significant outcomes across regulatory tenders, financing facilities, and large-scale asset construction.

Building on this momentum, this role will lead legal and strategic support across key FID-stage projects, manage stakeholder relationships and negotiate critical project agreements including offtake, connection, equipment supply, land, and finance documents - while ensuring alignment with Akaysha's risk appetite and governance processes.

With strong technical expertise, you'll guide legal process and provide practical advice across development, construction, and operations, while working closely with internal teams and external contractors throughout the project lifecycle.

Lead and negotiate complex, high-value project and finance agreements for BESS projects through to execution, ensuring alignment with Akaysha's risk appetite and strategic objectives in collaboration with legal stakeholders. Support project financing by reviewing and negotiating tripartite agreements and finance instruments, providing legal input on due diligence and lender requests, and ensuring alignment with project and business objectives. Manage legal approvals and budgets in line with Akaysha's governance framework, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations throughout project delivery. Coordinate stakeholder relationships and legal workflows to support key project milestones, ensuring timely and aligned legal inputs.

Making an impact in this role will rely on experience across the following areas:

Structuring complex project and finance agreements (e.g. EPC, OEM, offtake, tripartite) that balance legal risk, commercial outcomes, and strategic goals. Identifying, allocating, and mitigating legal risks across all phases of a project—from development through to operations. Executing legal components of project finance transactions, including lender negotiations, due diligence, and alignment of finance instruments with project documentation. Interpreting complex regulatory frameworks and applying them to project structures, operational decisions, and compliance strategies across jurisdictions. Embedding legal governance frameworks into project and corporate workflows, ensuring alignment with internal approvals and external obligations. We're committed to staying ahead of the curve and our people are Akaysha's greatest asset. We support career growth and wellbeing through initiatives such as:
Professional Development Support including annual development allowance, additional paid time off, and internal academy courses.  Benefits such as annual wellbeing allowance, paid parental leave, and mobile phone allowance. Competitive pay with above-market performance bonuses and long-term incentives. Centrally located offices, and a genuinely flexible and hybrid approach to workdays.

We believe diverse teams build better solutions for the planet and its people. We're committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, supported, and able to do their best work, no matter their background, identity, or lived experience.
