The Behavioural Analysis Team assess and manage risk to the public from violent criminality and violent extremism. The Behavioural Analysis Team provides expert advice and develop technical solutions that helps drive the QPS's prevention and disruption efforts.
The role of the Forensic Behavioural Consultant is a unique and exciting opportunity to apply your specialist knowledge, skills and experience in human psychology and behaviour in support of the assessment, management, and mitigation of security risk within the community. In this role, you will work effectively within a team that operates in high-tempo environments. You will be required to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and excellent judgment under pressure in order to apply specialised, evidence-based solutions to complex scenarios in real-time.
The role will involve working in a team of professional peers, contribute value to multidisciplinary capability, have access to peer review and continuing professional development opportunities.
Your key accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Apply risk assessment methodology to the initial assessment, prioritisation & ongoing monitoring of individuals within the national security environment.
- Provide reports based on assessments to contribute to interventions and the management of individuals who may be a risk to the Australian community.
- Provide evidence-based advice in support of security intelligence and investigative operations based on sound theory and practice.
- Foster a multi-disciplinary approach to security intelligence and investigative operations through the development and maintenance of inter disciplinary and inter agency networks and liaison.
- Contribute to the education and training of stakeholders in understanding forensic behavioural theories and practice.
- Undertake continuous clinical education and training as part of an ongoing individual professional development plan.
Role Requirements
Mandatory
- Registration as a psychologist with AHPRA.
- Possession of post graduate qualifications (or significant progress towards post graduate qualifications) in the relevant area.
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an NVL1 security classification. Note: This position requires Australian Citizenship.
- Possession of a current C class driver's licence.
- Prior to appointment, the successful applicant will be required to undergo a psychometric assessment.
Qualification

Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience
- Experience in the management of high-risk offenders is highly desirable.
- Experience in a role that requires an understanding of the cultural, social, political, and psychological factors that impact upon risk within the counter terrorism environment is highly desirable.
Other
- Occasional intra and interstate travel is a requirement of this position.
