Media & Communications Manager

  • Temporary full-time (up to 12 months) opportunities available

  • Salary: $149,739 to $173,174 + super, based on experience

We're seeking media and communications experts skilled in leading teams and delivering strategic campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences. If you're a natural storyteller who can translate complex policy into clear, engaging narratives – this is your opportunity to make a difference.

The role

  • Lead the delivery of communications and media initiatives that support the rollout of planning policy, infrastructure, and housing programs across NSW.
  • Lead go-to market campaigns across a variety of channels
  • Shape how the Department engages with the public, media, and stakeholders through compelling storytelling, proactive media advice, and integrated campaign delivery.
  • Manage messaging across digital platforms, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with government priorities.
  • Navigate sensitive issues and tight deadlines with confidence.
  • Provide stakeholders with trusted leadership and strategic direction, in a fast-paced environment.

To be successful in the role, you will demonstrate:

  • Ability to craft clear, compelling narratives across traditional and digital channels—including EDMs, social media, and web.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience advising senior executives and working closely with Ministerial offices.
  • Confidence in managing media enquiries and engaging with journalists under tight deadlines.
  • Skill at balancing competing priorities while leading high-performing teams
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver high-impact communications in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative leadership style that supports team development and drives continuous improvement.

Essential requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to be on call, as required, outside of normal working hours.
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, journalism, or related discipline and/or relevant extensive experience.
