**About the team**
SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation. We do this by undertaking a mix of responsive and proactive programs of work focused on high risk harms across all industries, aligned to our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.
SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator. In preparation for these changes, we have an opportunity within our newly established Communications and Media team.

**Your day-to-day**
The Advisor, Media will drive strategic media initiatives, foster meaningful engagement, support the communication goals of SafeWork NSW and contribute to a small Communications and Media team. This is a wonderful opportunity to play a key role in shaping media strategies that effectively communicate key messages, enhance stakeholder engagement and ensure consistent, aligned narratives across traditional and digital platforms.
**The Advisor, Media will**:
- Monitor trending media issues to identify opportunities and emerging topics of importance and consequence
- Contribute to the development and delivery of an ongoing program of targeted media and story activities to promote SafeWork NSW, support announcements, policy reform and programs to align with contemporary outlets such as social media
- Assist with researching and preparing media releases, media responses, holding statements, Q&As and other materials to contribute to the provision of accurate and timely advice on story development opportunities and critical issues to senior management and ministers’ offices
- Develop and maintain key internal and external media-based relationships while maintaining appropriate business confidentiality and exercising a high level of probity and procedural correctness
- Maintain a sound understanding of Departmental and business portfolio priorities and challenges and develop and maintain professional relationships with business partners, the ministers’ offices, key media contacts and other stakeholders
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to create story opportunities for traditional and social media
- Contribute to a positive, supportive and engaging workplace.
**To be successful in this role you will demonstrate**:
- Strong communication skills with experience crafting compelling stories, briefs and media materials for diverse audiences
- An innovative approach to writing with a talent for creating engaging content across digital, print, broadcast and event platforms
- Good stakeholder engagement skills, building trusted relationships to deliver impactful government messaging
- A proven ability to coordinate media messaging and deliver integrated communication campaigns that drive results
- Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced environment, responding effectively to shifting priorities and deadlines in a timely manner and work collaboratively within a diverse team.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or transferable skills and experience are desirable.
