The Returned and Services League of Australia WA Branch Incorporated (RSL WA) is one of Australia's most renowned charities with 106 Sub-Branch locations and over 6,500 members. The RSL has a rich history deeply rooted in Australian culture and heritage stretching back to 1916 after the First World War.

We are a unique intergenerational organisation that welcomes current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and other allied nations. Together, we ensure that veterans and their families impacted by the unique challenges of military service are supported. Our wellbeing, welfare, and claims advocacy services enable veterans and their families to thrive. RSL WA also hosts regular commemorative events including Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. RSL WA uses best practice, innovation, and a national network to deliver on its services.

POSITION STATEMENT

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a strategic and operational role supporting RSL WA's mission to serve veterans and their families. Reporting directly to the CEO and COO, the HRBP ensures that HR initiatives align with organisational goals, foster a positive workplace culture, and support staff across all departments.

This is a part-time (0.6 – 0.8 FTE) position and will be based at RSL WA State Branch in Perth CBD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the CEO and COO to design and implement HR strategies that align with RSL WA's strategic objectives and values.
  • Provide expert guidance to managers on employee relations, including performance management, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance handling.
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment and selection processes, ensuring a positive candidate experience and seamless onboarding.
  • Develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures in compliance with Fair Work Act, WA employment legislation, and industry best practices.
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to development, retention, and offboarding.
  • Prepare and maintain employment contracts, variation letters, and other HR documentation with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the annual performance review cycle, including goal setting, feedback, and development planning.
  • Collaborate with CEO and COO on workforce planning and succession strategies to support organisational growth and sustainability.
  • Support learning and development initiatives, including training needs analysis and program coordination.
  • Champion employee engagement and wellbeing programs to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety obligations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Create and manage a structured volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and recognition of volunteers.
  • Maintain and optimise HRIS system (Employment Hero) for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Other duties as directed by the Chief Operating Officer and/or other Managers.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a standalone HR role, ideally within the not-for-profit or community services sector.
  • Strong understanding of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work Act, and contemporary HR practices.
  • Familiar with hospitality sector HR practices, award interpretation, and casual workforce management.
  • Sound knowledge of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHCADS) Award and the Registered and Licensed Clubs (R&LC) Award.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Experience in developing and managing volunteer programs is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Workplace Health and Safety.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Defence Forces and veteran community is desirable.
  • Valid National Police Clearance.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Records Check prior to commencing employment.
