Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Commonwealth Bank of Australia Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year
  • We are a growing team within the bank and constantly involved in industry changing solutions
  • You will be part of an innovative environment with likeminded individuals
  • Together we place customers at the centre of what we do

Do work that matters

The CTO Office is driving the future of intelligent banking—where AI and automation are embedded into the fabric of our technology. Our mission is to enable engineering teams to confidently and responsibly integrate AI into their products, delivering better outcomes for customers, employees, and the broader community.

We're building foundational AI automation capabilities that scale across the enterprise. As a Senior Product Manager, you'll lead the product strategy and discovery for these capabilities align to company strategy —working closely with Crew Lead and Distinguished Engineer to shape the future of AI enablement at CommBank.

See yourself in our team

We're looking for a product leader who's energized by ambiguity, driven by curiosity, and obsessed with solving the right problems. You'll lead a cross-functional squad focused on AI automation, partnering deeply with engineering and design to shape early product direction, validate ideas, and deliver real outcomes.

This is a hands-on role at the intersection of strategy, experimentation, and engineering—perfect for someone who thrives in the creative front-end of product development. You'll apply SVPG (Silicon Valley Product Group) principles to lead discovery, shape product bets, and uplift others by showing how great product thinking is done.

On any given week, you will:

  • Lead the product side of discovery—exploring opportunities, defining problem spaces, and evaluating solutions through experimentation
  • Partner with NextGen AI Automation Crew Lead and Distinguished Engineer to align on product direction, technical feasibility, and delivery strategy
  • Frame the strategic context—connecting discovery efforts to broader business goals and commercial viability
  • Shape and own the product roadmap for AI automation capabilities and foundational services
  • Frame hypotheses, run rapid tests, gather insights, and iterate quickly to inform what we build (and what we don't)
  • Translate business and customer signals into testable concepts with measurable impact
  • Champion a culture of open exploration, safe-to-fail testing, and customer-led thinking
  • Balance strategy with execution—zoom out to shape direction, zoom in to run tightly scoped experiments
  • Engage senior stakeholders across business units, aligning discovery efforts to strategic priorities
  • Coach and uplift others by sharing your approach to discovery, mentoring peers, and co-facilitating experiments.

About You

  • You're a strategic thinker and hands-on doer—comfortable moving fluidly between vision and scrappy testing
  • You've led discovery efforts in complex environments and can confidently frame opportunity spaces and align stakeholders
  • You bring a strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and how they can be applied to accelerate product development
  • You've worked in squad models or similar, partnering deeply with engineering and design leads.
  • You're fluent in agile product development and experienced in applying SVPG-aligned practices.
  • You're a natural translator—able to navigate between technical, business, and customer perspectives.
  • You have exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, and can influence at all levels.
  • You thrive in early-stage, cross-functional environments where experimentation, curiosity, and pace matter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience leading or contributing to AI automation initiatives—beyond conversational AI—such as intelligent workflows, anomaly detection, decisioning systems, or AI-driven orchestration.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and integrate AI/ML technologies (including Generative AI) into product strategies and engineering pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AI observability and monitoring, including the detection of anomalies or failures in automated systems.
  • Experience working in platform or foundational capability teams that enable other squads to adopt AI responsibly and at scale.
  • Exposure to AI governance, model lifecycle management, or responsible AI practices is a plus.

Why join us?

  • Be part of a world-class AI ambition with real impact on millions of Australians.
  • Work in a hybrid environment with flexibility and purpose.
  • Collaborate with a diverse, high-performing team of engineers, product leaders, and AI specialists.
  • Shape the future of AI in banking—responsibly, ethically, and at scale.
