Job Summary
We're looking for a passionate and collaborative Engineering Lead – Data who thrives on building innovative data solutions and nurturing a team of talented engineers. In this role, you'll empower your team through mentorship, provide strategic technical guidance, and work closely with product teams and stakeholders to translate business goals into impactful data solutions. Your leadership will inspire a culture of creativity, teamwork, and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead with empathy and clarity, guiding data engineering teams locally and offshore with support, encouragement, and technical expertise.
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Deliver high-quality, fit-for-purpose data solutions on time and within budget, while championing best practices and modern development approaches.
- Collaborate closely with product teams, data analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to deeply understand business needs and transform them into elegant technical solutions.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of data models, engineering processes, and technical designs that others can easily follow and build upon.
- Promote data governance, security, and quality standards, proactively addressing issues and enhancing processes.
- Support and contribute to company-wide technology initiatives and training programs.
- Manage resources effectively, maintain clear communication, and oversee project priorities to deliver impactful results.
- Encourage professional growth by maintaining and updating team training and development plans.
- Lead by example in completing administrative responsibilities such as timesheets and reporting.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 3 years of experience leading data engineering teams or similar roles, with a track record of designing and delivering enterprise-grade data solutions.
- Hands-on expertise with modern data platforms and tools, including Python, Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, and GCP.
- Experience designing and maintaining Power BI semantic models, ensuring scalable and repeatable governance.
- Deep understanding of data modeling best practices, data governance, and quality assurance.
- Comfortable with source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Agile methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to debug, profile, and optimize performance issues.
- Excellent communication skills paired with a nurturing, team-first leadership style.
- Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
