Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and triage as required.
  • Provide wound care, dressings, and minor procedures assistance.
  • Administer vaccinations and immunisations (childhood, adult, travel, and flu).
  • Support GPs with health assessments, care plans, and chronic disease management.
  • Conduct cervical screening (if accredited).
  • Perform ECGs, spirometry, ear syringing, and other relevant procedures.
  • Maintain infection control standards and sterilisation of instruments.
  • Participate in recalls, reminders, and follow-up of test results.

Patient Education & Health Promotion

  • Provide patient education on chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, heart disease).
  • Support preventive health programs, including lifestyle counselling, screening, and risk factor management.
  • Promote vaccination uptake and preventive care initiatives.

Practice Support & Compliance

  • Assist GPs during clinical procedures and emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in patient records.
  • Ensure compliance with RACGP Standards for general practices.
  • Adhere to confidentiality, privacy, and workplace health and safety policies.
  • Participate in audits, accreditation, and quality improvement activities.

3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accurate and timely documentation in patient records.
  • Patient satisfaction and positive feedback.
  • Compliance with infection control and immunisation standards.
  • Contribution to meeting practice targets (e.g., chronic disease care plans, health assessments).
  • Active participation in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

4. Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Enrolled Nurse (EN).
  • Demonstrated clinical skills relevant to general practice nursing.
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management, immunisation schedules, and wound care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to patient-centred care, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Desirable:

  • Immunisation certification (QLD Health approved).
  • Cervical Screening Provider accreditation.
  • Previous experience in general practice or primary health care.
  • Familiarity with Best Practice, MedicalDirector, or equivalent clinical software.
  • CPR certification (current).

5. Key Relationships

Internal: General Practitioners, Practice Manager, Receptionists, Allied Health staff.

External: Patients, carers, pathology and diagnostic services, Primary Health Networks, Queensland Health.

8. Conditions of Employment

  • Covered under the Nurses Award 2020 (MA or relevant enterprise agreement.
  • Remuneration based on classification and experience.
  • Hours as rostered with flexibility to cover shifts.
  • Probationary period of six months.
  • Performance reviews conducted annually.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Casual

Pay: $30.00 – $43.00 per hour

Expected hours: 21 – 38 per week
