We are seeking a Head of Compliance with compliance and internal audit experience in the consumer lending space. As a senior leader within NOW Finance, the Head of Compliance will be responsible for leading, developing and managing NOW Finance's compliance framework, while also overseeing and leading the internal audit program. The role requires advising on specific projects, supporting the business to achieve its goals, while maintaining compliance obligations and delivering compliance training across the organisation. With varied role content, you have a unique opportunity to make decisions within the internal compliance frameworks and play a key support role with the team, contributing to the company's future direction. This role will report to the General Counsel and Company Secretary.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Your role will be to ensure compliance with all applicable Australian laws and regulations in Australia. You will have proven expertise in :
- National Consumer Credit Protection Act (Cth) 2010
- Privacy Act (Cth) 1988
- Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Act (Cth) 2006
- Corporations Act (Cth) 2001
- ASIC regulatory guidance
- AFCA matters
Leadership & Strategy
- Continue to develop and implement NOW Finance's compliance strategy, framework and policies aligned to business objectives and regulatory requirements
- Advise the Board, CEO and Executive Leadership Team on compliance risks, regulatory developments and emerging industry trends
- Promote a proactive compliance and risk-aware culture through the organisation
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure the business complies with all applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance material and industry codes.
- Manage licensing obligations under the Australian Credit Licence (ACL), including fit and proper person requirements, responsible lending obligations, breach reporting, and engagement with ASIC.
- Ensure all required reports to regulators are prepared and submitted accurately and on time.
- Monitor regulatory change, assess impacts on the business, and oversee implementation of necessary changes.
Governance & Risk Management
- Oversee compliance risk identification, assessment, and management across all consumer lending products and services.
- Establish and maintain compliance monitoring, testing, and assurance programs.
- Provide regular compliance reporting to the Board, Enterprise Risk Committee, and senior management.
- Ensure effective incident management, breach reporting, remediation, and liaison with regulators.
Operational Compliance
- Ensure policies, procedures, training, and controls are in place to meet responsible lending, hardship, collections, disclosure, and dispute resolution requirements.
- Manage AML/CTF compliance, including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, and reporting to AUSTRAC.
- Support product development to ensure consumer outcomes and compliance obligations are considered from inception.
People & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, develop, and mentor the Compliance team.
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders including Legal, Risk, Credit, Operations, and Product teams.
- Act as key liaison with regulators (ASIC, AUSTRAC, OAIC, AFCA) and external auditors.
- Drive compliance training and awareness programs across the organisation.
Key Attributes & Experience:
- Strong understanding of consumer lending products, services and industry practices
- Proven ability to develop compliance frameworks in a highly regulated environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work across all levels of the organisation.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to balance regulatory compliance with business objectives.
- High integrity, independence and sound judgment.
- Experience with credit-related legislation and consumer lending regulatory requirements.
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Finance or related field.
- Post-graduate experience in compliance, legal or risk roles within financial services or consumer credit industry.
- Minimum of 5 years' compliance experience.
