- Deliver one of the largest infrastructure programs in Queensland's history
- Shape the future of Queensland's communities, economy, and sporting culture
- Leave a lasting Games legacy for generations to come
About GIICA
The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is shaping the future of Queensland through the delivery of 17 new and upgraded venues for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Hosting the world's largest sporting celebration is a once-in-a-generation opportunity - one that will redefine our state's economy, connectivity, sustainability and community wellbeing.
Momentum is building. GIICA has just launched a portfolio-wide Registration of Interest (ROI) across all 17 new or upgraded Games venues, plus an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a Delivery Partner. These steps underscore that now it's time to build.
The role: Delivery Director
Reporting to the Executive General Manager - Delivery, you will have overarching responsibility for the delivery of all 17 venues for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. You will provide hands-on and solutions-focused leadership to ensure all venues are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety, quality, accessibility, and sustainability.
You will manage multidisciplinary project teams and contractors across multiple, concurrent workstreams, resolving delivery challenges, embedding rigorous governance, and ensuring compliance with statutory approvals and environmental obligations. This is a leadership role that will balance operational demands with GIICA's strategic objectives and public expectations.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across all venue delivery, aligning outcomes with GIICA's objectives, government commitments, and community expectations.
- Oversee the full infrastructure lifecycle - from early planning and design through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Coordinate and manage the services provided by GIICA's Delivery Partner team to ensure scalable capability uplift across the program.
- Inform and contribute to procurement strategies, delivery models, and commercial mechanisms that enable efficient and fair market engagement while addressing project risks.
- Role model and encourage a positive culture which fosters resilience, a solutions focus, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across teams.
- Work closely with the Project Management Office to ensure compliance with statutory approvals, environmental obligations, and regulatory frameworks.
- Lead and support multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed project teams, manage contractor performance, and resolve delivery challenges across concurrent workstreams.
- Identify and manage risks, implementing mitigation strategies to safeguard outcomes, public confidence, and operational readiness.
- Foster strong, transparent relationships with government, industry partners, delivery partners, and communities.
Who you are:
We're looking for someone who brings:
- Proven expertise in the successful delivery of major building projects, ideally large-scale, high-profile public use developments - experience with sporting venues will be highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of the current Queensland infrastructure and building construction market, including key players, delivery models and regulatory trends. This should ideally include familiarity with public sector capital works, major venue and precinct developments and smart infrastructure initiatives across Queensland.
- Proven ability to deliver projects to scope, cost, time, and quality while ensuring safety-first culture, compliance, and progressive completions from the start.
- Demonstrated experience embedding governance, driving quality, and resolving defects proactively with a high level of commercial acumen.
- Strong leadership and delivery focus, with the demonstrated ability to balance operational demands with strategic objectives and public expectations.
- The ability to inspire and lead multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders in complex, high-pressure environments.
- Excellent stakeholder skills - with the credibility to influence and advise at senior levels not only internally within GIICA but also across government, industry, and community.
- A leadership style that is decisive, collaborative, resilient, and able to inspire teams in complex environments.
Why apply?
- Be part of something historic.
This is one of the largest infrastructure programs in Australian history. The 2032 Games are not just about sport - they are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deliver transformational infrastructure across Queensland. - Clear mandate & direction.
With the Delivery Plan locked in, and procurement underway, the foundation has been laid. The mandate is delivery - and this role will be key to success. - Scale and legacy.
17 new/upgraded venues which are not just for the Games but for the future: events, communities, tourism, infrastructure that shapes Queensland for decades. - Industry engagement & collaboration.
The ROI/EOI processes are live, with strong interest from industry. This is your chance to build, lead, and influence an entire delivery ecosystem. - Challenge and reward.
You'll be dealing with the kind of complexity, scale, and visibility few infrastructure executives get in a lifetime. If you thrive on delivering the seemingly impossible, this role will be deeply rewarding.
Applications will be assessed in the coming weeks. GIICA aims to appoint the successful Delivery Director in time to hit the ground running with the next waves of procurement and mobilisation.
Strong candidates will demonstrate experience delivering major, high-profile infrastructure projects, with evidence of managing complexity, risk and stakeholders under scrutiny. You will bring commercial acumen, proven leadership of high-performing teams, and a commitment to safety, sustainability and leaving a lasting legacy.
If you are ready to lead delivery of one of Queensland's most ambitious infrastructure programs, one that will define our State's future, build communities, connect places, forge legacies then this is your moment.
