About the role

Reporting to the CHPP Manager, the Health, Safety, Training & Risk (HST&R) Superintendent will play a key leadership role in creating and sustaining a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment at Fitzroy's Coal Handling and Preparation Plant. This is a critical position focused on driving proactive risk management, supporting the rollout of management systems, and delivering strategic safety initiatives that underpin operational performance and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Coordinate HST&R operational planning to align with site and organisational objectives
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain the Safety & Health Management System (SHMS)
  • Oversee the Training & Competency Scheme to ensure workforce capability and compliance
  • Lead assurance activities, including the Visible Leadership program, to evaluate SHMS performance
  • Monitor statutory compliance, report non-conformances, and develop corrective actions
  • Manage systems for workplace injuries, illnesses, and Workers Compensation cases

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Safety, Occupational Health, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working within HST teams, ideally in open-cut coal mining operations
  • Practical understanding of Safety and Health Management Systems (SHMS), including their development, implementation, and auditing.
  • Familiarity with Queensland Coal Mining legislation and industry safety standards, with the ability to interpret and apply legislative requirements.
  • Experience in engaging with regulatory bodies and managing compliance interactions.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and review management systems and assurance frameworks.
  • Strong auditing skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and interpersonal—with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels.
  • Analytical capability to interpret data and present meaningful insights to management.
  • High attention to detail and experience in preparing and delivering technical reports.
  • A positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for learning and applying HST principles.
