We are looking for a Careers and Mentoring Specialist to support Mas National apprentices and trainees as they navigate the challenges of work, study, and personal growth. The role is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with people, working towards goals, and providing guidance to help apprentices and trainees towards successful completion.

Background

Mas National, part of IntoWork Australia, is a not-for-profit business providing employment and training opportunities for individuals and communities across Australia.

Mas National are an Apprentice Connect Provider and are contracted by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) to deliver Australian Apprenticeship Support Services (AASS) services across QLD, NSW, ACT, SA and TAS. Our knowledgeable and passionate team support employers, stakeholders and individuals from pre-commencement through to completion of an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support apprentices and trainees to overcome their challenges and complete their apprenticeship / traineeship
  • Build relationships with apprentices, trainees, employers, parents / guardians and other stakeholders
  • Identify challenges (personal, financial, work-related) and develop tailored support plans
  • Work towards key performance goals, ensuring high levels of engagement, retention and mentoring success
  • Proactively check-in with apprentices and trainee, building trust and identifying challenges early to provide support
  • Provide referrals to relevant services such as mental health, financial assistance / resources, and language, literacy and numeracy tools
  • Advise employers on effective mentoring strategies and resources to help their apprentices succeed
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
Who We Are Looking For

You might come from:

  • A mentoring, coaching, employment services or career development background
  • A customer-focused industry like retail, hospitality, sales, or business development where you've built strong communication and relationship skills
  • A role where you've had to problem-solve and guide people toward positive outcomes
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – you enjoy engaging with people and building trust
  • Proven ability to achieve goals and targets – your comfortable with working towards KPI's that reflect engagement and mentoring success
  • Problem solving mindset – You can assess situations and provide proactive support
  • Confidence working with diverse groups – apprentices / trainees, employers, training providers, internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage administrative tasks – keeping accurate records and following process

Desirable

  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, or training
  • Knowledge of apprenticeships, traineeships, or vocational education

Bonus

  • Qualifications in Career Development, Social Work, Community Services or related field
Relevant Checks

The successful candidate must hold or be willing to obtain:

  • A current Working with Children Check
  • A National Police check
  • Driver's license (must)
What Mas is Offering

A fulltime role - 38 hours per week with a competitive salary (based on skills and experience) plus a company car is on offer. Flexibility, including WFH is available and can be negotiated after the initial training period.
