We are looking for an experienced chef to join our team at our Werribee centre.

At Gumboots Early Learning our aim is to create a home-like environment for our children and their families so it's important that our menu delivers nutritious, home style cooking that caters for all dietary requirements and diverse cultures.

Our modern, architecturally designed centre has a well appointed, modern kitchen fully equipped with quality appliances and equipment. Our kitchen is the heart of our centre.  In this role, you will not only cook delicious and healthy meals for our children, you will also be pivotal in building relationships with our children and their families, inviting them for feedback and to sample your freshly made food.

Our centre runs our very own 'Garden to Plate' program where the children and educators are involved in managing our veggie gardens with the support of our kitchen staff and we encourage you to utilise and harvest the range of veggies and herbs that are grown in our food and menus.

About the role:

  • Prepare a wide variety of nutritious meals, purees and special meals for babies and children
  • Have experience in planning a seasonal, rotating menu
  • Assist with ordering of food, managing your weekly budgets and ensure the kitchen is well stocked
  • Prepare all meals on offer on our daily menu including breakfast, all snacks, cooked hot lunch and baked goods for families and staff
  • You must maintain a clean and safe kitchen in accordance with Food Safety and Council requirements
  • You must enjoy working in a team environment and be a team player who welcomes feedback
  • Willing to conduct cooking experiences with children on a regular basis as part of our educational program

Qualifications

  • Completed a Food Handlers Certificate Qualification
  • Completed Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (health & community sector)
  • Current Working with Children's Check

Prior experience in a child care setting or similar will be highly regarded.
