THE ROLE

The High Rise Improvement Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation of the South Melbourne High Rise Improvement project, including supporting the establishment of a neighbourhood action group to assist in identifying and developing or facilitating responses to local issues or concerns. An Improvement Action Plan (the plan) has been developed to respond to issues raised by renters, security providers, Victoria Police, and the broader community at the South Melbourne high rise estates.

The position works within a small team which, in conjunction with local housing office staff, will implement strategies to improve social connection and including or public housing tenants; improve residents' safety and reduce anti-social behaviour; and improve access to Community Services.

As the Senior Program Officer, you will work as a part of the project team to undertake the agreed actions outlined in the improvement plan, which will improve community and economic participation outcomes for current and future residents of the South Melbourne public housing estates, with a focus on Security and Safety, Community Development, health and social supports and Building maintenance and Hygiene.

This role may at times be required to operate outside of normal office hours in line with the current VPS Enterprise Agreement.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

  • Undertake community development activities to reduce isolation, build understanding between residents, build their confidence and increase connections to local health, education, training and community services.
  • Coordinate Neighbourhood Action Groups compromising of residents and other relevant stakeholders to identify place-based issues and opportunities as well as neighbourhood service levels.
  • Support departmental Housing Services Officers to coordinate and deliver against action plan priorities.
