Queensland Country Tourism (QCT) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from experienced, strategic, and passionate individuals to join our skills-based Board as Non-Executive Directors. This is your chance to play a pivotal leadership role in advancing regional tourism across an extraordinary part of the state, influencing how Queensland Country showcases its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant communities to the world.

As one of 13 Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) recognised and supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), QCT represents a vast and vibrant destination that includes:

• South Burnett
• Goondiwindi
• Western Downs
• Central Highlands
• Cherbourg
• Woorabinda
Tourism is a powerful economic driver for Queensland Country, with the June 2025 quarter alone seeing $917 million in visitor expenditure (Tourism Research Australia). With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, the region is set to take centre stage and our Board will help steer this exciting journey.
In 2024, QCT launched a new Destination Management Plan (DMP) and refreshed brand, laying out a clear vision for sustainable tourism growth through to 2032, aligning with and contributing to the state's broader
Destination 2045 strategy
. This is a rare opportunity to influence how Queensland Country contributes to the state's goal of becoming a world leader in sustainable tourism.
Who We're Looking For:
We are seeking
forward-thinking, values-aligned leaders
and are particularly seeking those with skills in one or more of the following areas:
• Commercial strategy and sponsorship
• People leadership & human resources
• Legal
• Finance
• Risk and compliance
• Engagement with diverse communities including First Nations, culturally and linguistically diverse, people with disability
• Governance
Skills in the following areas would also be highly regarded:
• Tourism, events, or regional development
• Marketing, digital, or customer experience
• Sustainability
Previous board or committee experience is desirable but not essential. If you bring diverse perspectives, strategic insight, and a strong sense of purpose and passion for shaping the future of tourism in our region, we want to hear from you.
About the QCT Board
The QCT Board is a
skills-based, non-executive governance body
made up of professionals from across industry, government, and business. The Board champions an
inclusive, accessible, and diverse culture,
reflecting the communities we serve. It provides strategic oversight and ensures that QCT is delivering on its key objectives:
• Drive visitation to Queensland Country
• Strengthen regional economies and community wellbeing
• Foster community engagement and pride
• Promote Queensland Country as a vibrant, sustainable destination
The Board meets 6 to 8 times annually, with a mix of in-person meetings across the region and virtual sessions. Directors are also expected to contribute to sub-committees, which meet monthly or bi-monthly.
What's Expected of Directors
As a QCT Board Director, you will:
• Actively participate in Board meetings and sub-committees
• Come prepared by reviewing papers and staying informed on key issues
• Build strong, collaborative relationships with fellow Directors
• Apply your skills and insights to advance QCT's strategic goals
• Become familiar with the organisation's strategy, operations, and finances
• Advocate for the region and the tourism industry more broadly
Commitment and Term
• Directors are appointed for an initial
2-year term
• Candidates must demonstrate at least 2 years of relevant experience in a role aligned with the Board's strategic needs
• Up to
three Board positions
are available
• Board roles are voluntary and reasonable expenses are reimbursed
• Appointments will be endorsed at the
QCT AGM
on
27 November 2025
