About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Waste Management Officer to join the Resource Recovery team at Ballina Shire Council. This hands-on role involves delivering high-quality waste management services to the community while maintaining a safe, efficient, and professional operation at the Waste Management Centre.

You will work across a variety of operational tasks including weighbridge operations, drop-off area management, and general site maintenance, ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients
  • Perform operational duties across the resource recovery and transfer station facilities
  • Undertake weighbridge operations, including directing customers, receipting payments, and recording vehicle weights
  • Complete labouring and grounds maintenance tasks (mowing, litter collection, weeding, and general upkeep)
  • Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain a strong focus on work health and safety standards
What You'll Need

Essential:

  • Experience in the waste management industry
  • Physically fit with the ability to perform manual labour
  • Class C manual driver's licence
  • Good communication skills and a strong customer service focus
  • Willingness to work rostered shifts including weekends and public holidays
  • Current immunisation (or willingness) for Hepatitis A and B

Desirable:

  • HR licence, Front End Loader or Forklift tickets
  • Experience in weighbridge operations and cash handling
  • White card and Working Near Overhead Powerlines certification
