About the role – Multiple Casual Positions Available

Join the WestCare Centre team as a Support Worker and make a real impact in the lives of people experiencing homelessness, hardship, and social isolation. WestCare Centre is a welcoming community hub in the heart of the city, providing meals, hygiene facilities, and access to housing and health services. In this hands-on role, you will build trust with clients, offer practical support and referrals, assist with outreach, and help maintain a safe and respectful environment. It's a dynamic, people-focused role where every interaction contributes to someone's wellbeing and stability. Bring your compassion, resilience, and commitment to creating positive change.

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Build rapport with clients and provide brief support, referrals, and advocacy based on their needs.
  • Assist with outreach to rough sleepers, offering information, assessments, and support to access housing and health services.
  • Monitor client behaviour to ensure a safe and welcoming environment at the Centre.
  • Support daily operations, including cleaning, meal service, and maintaining service standards.

About you:

You are a compassionate and resilient individual with a strong commitment to supporting people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Your understanding of trauma-informed care, along with your ability to stay calm under pressure, allows you to effectively manage challenging behaviours. You work well both independently and as part of a team, bringing empathy, reliability, and a non-judgemental approach to every interaction.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services or similar
  • Extensive relevant experience will be considered in lieu of qualification
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues relating to people who have experienced homelessness and marginalisation
  • Experience in providing services to marginalised people experiencing homelessness, addiction or mental health issues.

About us:

We are proud to be part of the merged care organisation that will be known nationally as BaptistCare. We strive to deliver care as it should be – with people right at the centre.

Why work with us?

You'll also receive:

  • A competitive salary on the SCHADS Award (Level 2) + super
  • Salary packaging in addition to increase your take home pay
  • A corporate health plan with BUPA offering discounted health insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Support cultural and community obligations, including up to five days Paid Cultural Leave

All staff are required to work within our code of conduct and undergo relevant pre-employment checks as part of our commitment to safeguarding vulnerable people.

Baptist Care SA is proud to be working towards uniting with BaptistCare (NSW, ACT, WA) and Baptcare (VIC, TAS), to create a newly merged national care organisation committed to providing exceptional support and services across Australia.
