About the Assignment

The primary goal of this position is to provide leadership, expertise and strategic direction for HSSE training, competency, capability and communications.

The role focusses on harm minimisation through:

  • Identifying training, competency and capability needs and developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive HSSE training programs
  • Driving effective communication of HSSE standards, initiatives and learnings across the organisation

Tasks include:

  • Lead HSSE training and communications as the organization's subject matter expert, providing strategic direction, expertise, and support.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify and address organizational HSSE training and communication needs.
  • Develop and implement HSSE training and communications strategy and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead HSSE training management, evaluation and continuous improvement for the organisation, that meets legislative requirements and drives optimal HSSE capability.
  • Develop and maintain a training needs analysis and technical competency framework for HSSE community team members.
  • Create and sustain a training needs analysis and technical competency framework for HSSE skills across the organization, including inductions, specialist and high-risk HSSE skills, and HSSE leadership, integrating these into the respective technical competency frameworks.
  • Lead the development and implementation of key HSSE training programs including organisational inductions, STRIVE, Frontline Safety Leadership program, and other high priority training as identified in technical competency profiles.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of the organisations learning management system and technical competency framework to identify, track, and monitor training and skills needs, understand current training requirements, and support future planning.
  • Provides support, tools and resources to create engaging and effective training and communications materials, including presentations, manuals, and multimedia resources.
  • Plan and coordinate the development and distribution of key organisational HSSE communication activities.
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of key HSSE awareness programs and initiatives.
  • Establish governance processes for key HSSE training and communications, ensuring legal compliance (with state and federal HSSE legislation), currency of information, and effectiveness.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for HSSE training and communication, reporting on progress and areas for improvement.
  • Manage the budget for HSSE training and communication initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Proactively pursues strategies and innovations to optimise HSSE training and communications effectiveness.
  • Actively participate in, collaborate with and influence industry groups, state and federal regulators, and professional networks including Safer Together International Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) and Australian Energy Producers (AEP).
  • Stay updated on industry standards, legislative changes, industry learnings and technological developments. Update training, communicate and implement where applicable.
  • Embody our Always Safe value and actively contribute to fostering a positive and leading HSSE maturity consistent with our vision, policies, and standards.
  • Be an integral HSSE team participant, utilising expertise and providing support to drive outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS), Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA), Santos Corporate Governance and Safety requirements.

This assignment is initially offered for 3 months, engaged via Chandler Macleod.

Location for this assignment is Adelaide, CBD working full-time office hours.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in training/development, HSE, communications or related field is highly preferred
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment (or equivalent) is essential
  • Should have strong experience in HSE training position
  • Proven experience leading training management, preferably in resources industry
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in learning management systems and e-learning platforms
  • Understanding of HSE management systems (ISO 45001 and ISO is desired
