Employing more than 350 staff, CMAX is a 78-bed clinical trials unit, with a database of more than 50,000 clinical trial participants, and utilising state-of-the-art facilities, we are primely positioned, opposite the Royal Adelaide Hospital and part of the Adelaide BioMed City precinct.

About the role:

We are seeking a Principal Investigator (PI) to join our expert team. In this pivotal role, you will provide medical and scientific leadership across assigned Phase I–II clinical trials, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, regulatory compliance and scientific integrity.

As required, all Principal Investigators also assume the responsibilities of a Sub-Investigator (SI) to cover other designated/primary Principal Investigator leave and/or unavailability.

The successful person will be responsible for:

  • Lead the medical oversight of assigned studies from start-up to completion;
  • Ensure compliance with GCP, ICH guidelines, and regulatory requirements;
  • Provide medical input into study design and feasibility assessments;
  • Conduct eligibility assessments, physical exams and medical monitoring;
  • Make safety decisions, including after-hours adverse event support;
  • Collaborate with sponsors, vendors, regulators and internal multidisciplinary teams;
  • Contribute to staff training, quality improvement initiatives and internal education programs;
  • Support fellow investigators and cover as a Sub-Investigator when required.

About you:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated clinician who brings:

  • Current AHPRA registration with at least 5 years post-registration experience;
  • Prior experience in clinical research in a similar role;
  • Fellowship (preferred but not essential);
  • A specialty field (advantageous but not mandatory);
  • ICH GCP certification;
  • ALS 1 certification (or willingness to obtain);
  • Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills;
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance (may be arranged depending on contract type);
  • Attend and contribute to our internal 'CMAX PI School' training.

Please note - This role is suitable only for persons who reside in or relocate to South Australia as it is an onsite hands-on role. Remote or hybrid options are not available for this position. Full time is preferred, however Part time flexibility may be considered pending availability details for at least 0.8 FTE.
