About the role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Security Specialist to join a leading Cyber Security Unit within the Queensland Government sector.
In this role, you will be part of the Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRA) team, responsible for designing, developing and delivering a new Red Teaming Program aimed at strengthening cyber resilience across government entities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise to define and deliver the end-to-end Red Teaming Programme.
- Manage delivery of red teaming exercises, ensuring adherence to agreed scope, methodologies, and reporting standards.
- Develop C-suite and board-level reports to communicate key insights and lessons learned across agencies.
- Prepare and maintain plans and artefacts that support continuous improvement and outcome achievement.
- Build and manage productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, identifying opportunities for collaboration across government.
- Apply project planning, risk, quality, and resource management principles to ensure successful delivery.
- Oversee vendor and contract management to ensure value for money and quality outcomes.
- Monitor and report on programme benefits, risks, issues, dependencies, schedules, and progress.
- Promote a workplace culture of equity, diversity, inclusion, and respect.
Highly desirable criteria
- Demonstrated understanding of red team engagements across physical, digital, and human vectors.
- Experience in cybersecurity assurance projects, including red, blue or purple team initiatives.
- Proven experience working within complex or large-scale environments; Queensland Government experience is advantageous.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and executive levels.
- Strategic thinking and planning capability, with demonstrated experience in vendor and contract management.
- Experience leading delivery in dynamic environments while managing competing priorities.
Desirable criteria
- Experience with the SMEAC planning model.
- Possession of OSCP, CRTP, GPEN or CREST certification (highly regarded).
- Tertiary qualification or significant work experience in Programme or Project Management.
- Proven experience working with or leading third-party professional service providers.
- Understanding of leadership capabilities aligned to the Program Leader competencies within the Queensland public sector framework.
Skills and experience
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, testing methodologies, and risk management principles.
- Ability to translate complex technical findings into meaningful insights for executive audiences.
- Advanced communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
- Proven track record in delivering multi-stakeholder cybersecurity projects or programmes.
- Experience in report writing, documentation, and developing actionable recommendations from testing outcomes.
- Ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams and adapt to changing operational needs.
