As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.

As a Principal Project Officer you will deliver authoritative advice on complex island and marine protected area policies, leading legislative and regulatory reform development and implementation. It delivers high-level research, analysis and documentation, including Cabinet submissions and strategic briefs. The position represents QPWS&P in consultations with senior leaders and key stakeholders, supports and manages project teams to achieve program outcomes, and actively promotes a culturally respectful workplace that strengthens outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Role focus:

• Lead complex policy and legislative work - provide expert advice on island and marine protected area policy, develop whole-of-government options, and support legislative and regulatory reforms from development through to implementation.

• Drive high-quality analysis and documentation - research and analyse significant policy and legislative issues, and prepare briefs, Cabinet submissions, reports, correspondence and other complex documents.

• Build strong stakeholder relationships and represent QPWS&P - engage with senior management, staff, and internal and external stakeholders, representing the agency in consultations on major issues and program objectives.

• Support program delivery and cultural leadership - manage or contribute to project teams and foster a workplace culture that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while contributing to improved outcomes for First Nations communities.

To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:

• an automatic/ unrestricted manual driver's licence

There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this position however formal qualifications in project management would be highly regarded.
