Position Overview:

The Manager Professional Standards plays a central role in reviewing, developing, and maintaining quality clinical and professional practice standards specific to Rural Generalists and rural general practice. This position ensures that clinical and professional practice standards are evidence-based, fit-for-purpose, and aligned with the evolving needs of contemporary rural healthcare delivery, Rural Generalist Clinical Practice and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical understanding, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. This position would suit someone with a background in clinical governance, medical education, rural practice, or health policy, who is detail-oriented, highly organised, and passionate about improving healthcare outcomes in rural and remote communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Alongside and with support from the General Manager Quality & Safety.

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of clinical practice standards for Rural Generalists and rural general practice, ensuring they are evidence-based and practical for relevant contexts.
  • Regularly review and update existing clinical practice standards to reflect current evidence, regulatory requirements, and best practice in rural healthcare.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration and consultation with clinicians, health service managers, professional bodies, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure standards meet the needs of rural and remote communities.
  • Support the review and maintenance of the ACRRM Clinical Governance Framework, monitoring and ensuring the scheduled review, augmentation, relevant alignment across all ACRRM Clinical educational resources.
  • Support the review and maintenance of the ACRRM Continuing Professional Development Framework, ad the relevant resources, and educational materials related to CPD and Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) requirements.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Contribute to supporting the application of the organisation's clinical governance framework, including risk management, incident review, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of policies and advocacy positions relating to rural clinical standards and workforce issues.
  • Provide expert advice to internal teams and committees on clinical standards and their implementation.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating strong analytical and communication skills.

Key Competencies:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing clinical governance frameworks, clinical standards, or health policy, preferably in rural or remote settings.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare evidence-based reports, guidelines, and educational materials for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly organised with proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Passion for improving healthcare outcomes for rural and remote communities and understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in these settings.
  • Tertiary qualifications in medicine, nursing, allied health, or a related health discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in clinical governance, public health, health management, or medical education (desirable).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a clinical, management, or policy role in health, with at least 2 years in a rural or remote context (desirable).
