Primary objective
The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely acquisition and disposal of Northern Territory Police Force (NTPF) assets
including Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES), Fleet policy development and writing, capability assessment and
development and brief and report writing.
Context statement
The work unit, NTPF Fleet Management, manages, maintains, commissions, de-commissions and repairs all vehicles owned by Police,
Fire and Emergency Services. NTPF Fleet Services procures, maintains and disposes of motor vehicles, both light and heavy for NTPF
and NTFES in the Northern Territory. These services are provided to stations across the Northern Territory with offices in Darwin and
Alice Springs. The emphasis of this position is on administration and management of a modern and diverse large fleet of vehicles. It is
desirable the applicant has extensive previous dealings within a large fleet environment.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure vehicles are purchased and disposed of in a timely, cost effective and auditable manner.
Provide advice and future planning for fleet and specialist vehicles.
Assist in procurement processes and contract management for a wide range of contracts for external service, parts and supplies
providers.
Provide reporting data and analyse performance information for equipment within the NTPF and NTFES fleet.
Assist with policy development and writing.
Conduct research and analysis and produce reports and briefing papers for executive and other stakeholders.
- Conduct capability assessment and development of fleet assets.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A trade certificate for a Motor Vehicle Mechanic or similar with significant fleet program management and technical experience
incorporating both heavy vehicle and light vehicle fleets with an extensive working knowledge of motor industry standards.
- Post graduate studies in an Advanced or Associate Diploma of Engineering Technology or similar is required.
Demonstrable knowledge of large fleet operations with experience in asset acquisition and disposal.
A high standard of personable, written and oral skills to be able to evaluate, liaise, convey and provide industry representatives and
agency clients with sound advice.
- Demonstrable knowledge of human resource principles and strong leadership, managerial and supervisory skills to maintain
standardised procedures and practices.
- An extensive working knowledge of fleet operational needs including technical and logistical support.
- Demonstrated understanding of EEO and WH&S responsibilities.
Desirable
A current MVR inspectors' licence for vehicles under 4.5 Tonne and a current Northern Territory "MR" drivers' licence or ability to obtain
both upon commencement.
