We're looking for a Senior Strategic Land Use Planner to join the Strategy & Governance Team. Reporting to the Manager Strategy & Governance, this role leads the delivery of efficient, transparent, and customer-focused land use policy and strategic planning services, including the Council's built heritage functions. We're looking for someone who thrives in a team with a great culture, that enjoys variety in their work. This isn't a routine planning role. You'll be involved in land use strategy, strategic reviews, and developing other key strategies. You're curious, community-minded, and love learning. You'll bring energy to community engagement and genuinely care about making a difference.

What You'll Do:


• Strategic Project Management: Lead and coordinate major planning initiatives such as a housing strategy, code amendments, precinct and infrastructure planning, ensuring alignment with city development goals, timelines, and budgets.


• Expert Policy Advice: Provide high-level, forward-thinking advice on land-use planning and urban policy. This will shape Council's response to emerging challenges and align with state and local strategic objectives.


• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with government bodies, consultants, and the community to support collaborative planning and policy development.


• Community & Organisational Influence: Drive strategic thinking within Council, lead community engagement efforts, and contribute to policy development through research and analysis of national and international trends.


• Governance & Representation: Prepare reports for Council and panels, represent Council in public forums, and deliver quality customer service in line with the Strategic Plan.

What We're Looking For:


• A tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related field.


• A current full member of the Planning Institute of Australia or someone eligible for full membership.


• An understanding of South Australian development legislation, policy, guidelines and standards and how they relate to heritage and environmental protection in particular.


• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016, the Planning and Design Code and the procedures for amending planning instruments.


• A thorough understanding of the way urban infrastructure provision, housing, demographic change, the economy, transport, social development, facilities planning and community engagement interplay in a strategic land use planning environment.


• Ability to translate land use planning and community infrastructure planning concepts and strategies into policies, plans and directional documents that are capable of being implemented.


• Demonstrated ability to apply high level strategic and innovative thinking to complex and sensitive planning issues, including proven problem-solving ability and strong attention to detail.
