Roles & Responsibilities:
MITRE | Australia is delivering transformational impact in Digital Mission Engineering (DME) and Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO)-including full-spectrum Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Electronic Warfare (C5ISREW) capabilities-critical to Australia's national defence. As Project Lead, you will guide the strategic evolution of integrated Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Mission Engineering (DME), and Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) efforts that support the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the broader Joint Force, contributing directly to Australia's most pressing national security priorities. This includes advancing beyond traditional DME by applying a full MBSE approach-enabling end-to-end capability design, analysis, and validation across complex mission threads. You will work closely with an expanding stakeholder community, including Commander Fleet Command (COMFLT), Information Warfare Force (IWFOR), Systems Program Offices (SPO), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and other Defence and industry partners, to ensure integrated, data-driven solutions that meet evolving operational needs.
In this role, you will act as a trusted technical advisor to Australian Defence stakeholders, helping shape future force design and capability decisions. You will lead a geographically distributed, multidisciplinary MITRE team and deliver high-impact outcomes in mission engineering, modeling, simulation, and spectrum-enabled mission planning.
A key aspect of this role is leveraging MITRE's deep technical bench in the United States-bringing advanced expertise, tools, and innovation to Australia's defence challenges. Through this reachback capability, you will strengthen Australia-U.S. defence collaboration and help accelerate the delivery of next-generation, non-kinetic warfighting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead MITRE's strategic projects in Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare within Australia, managing cost, performance, and schedule to deliver impactful and innovative outcomes.
- Serve as an C5ISREW Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing critical advisory and systems engineering support to senior Australian Defence stakeholders, including key leaders within the RAN and Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).
- Foster and maintain strategic partnerships across Australia's defence ecosystem, proactively identifying new opportunities for MITRE to drive mission impact, particularly focused on advancing C5ISREW capabilities.
- Establish foundations for enduring strategic relationships within Australian Defence, aligned with broader Australia-U.S. strategic priorities, with C5ISREW as a central pillar.
- Provide visionary leadership to influence the future strategic direction of Australia's C5ISREW and digital transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with mission-critical defence priorities.
- Collaborate across MITRE's Push to Pacific (P2P), global enterprise, and the MITRE Innovation Program (MIP) to leverage organizational expertise, align efforts with Australian national security objectives, and strengthen U.S.-Australia interoperability as a trusted connector between both governments.
- Represent MITRE externally, strategically positioning the organization as a valued partner capable of addressing complex C5ISREW-related challenges and broaden national security priorities.
- Help shape MITRE | Australia's trajectory and mission, actively supporting leadership in its growth, culture, and strategic direction, with a clear emphasis on C5ISREW as a core capability area.
- Commit to a multi-year assignment based in Canberra, Australia, directly engaging with Australian defence partners, from tactical to strategic, to achieve transformative outcomes in C5ISREW and DME.
This is a rare and impactful opportunity for professionals seeking to lead transformative C5ISREW and initiatives, build influential international relationships, and play a critical role in shaping MITRE's global presence.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, information systems, or a related technical discipline and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, or non-kinetic operations.

- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage high-performing, geographically diverse teams in dynamic and collaborative environments involving senior government officials and a broad set of internal stakeholders.
- Proven experience consistently delivering high-quality technical products on schedule and within budget, effectively leveraging internal expertise for peer reviews and technical validation.
- Demonstrated capability to build and maintain trusted partnerships with government sponsors, translating sponsor requirements and mission needs into concrete tasks and successfully delivered solutions.
- At least two years of experience at MITRE, including a demonstrated understanding of MITRE's culture, capabilities, and processes, and evidence of leveraging established internal MITRE networks to deliver impactful results.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute expertise to support work-shaping initiatives beyond immediate project scope (e.g., department, division, or center-wide activities).
- Flexibility and willingness to live and work on-site in Canberra, Australia, with a multi-year assignment commitment.
- Possession of an active U.S. TOP SECRET//SCI security clearance, and the ability to maintain it.
