Level: Level 5 –Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.

$100,783.28 – 105,349.92 pro-rata, (depending on experience) plus leave loading and option to salary sacrifice.

Reports to: Toowoomba Team Leader

Contract: 24 months Fixed Term, Fulltime (with possibility of extension subject to funding, and pending successful probation)

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to work alongside and support community leaders and active community members in the Toowoomba region as they support their communities' emotional, relational and mental health and wellbeing.

Central to the roles is co-design and co-delivery of community-based healing workshops and group processes which enhance understanding of trauma recovery across mind, body and spirit and incorporate connection to family, culture, community and place.

The Toowoomba role will relate to a wider Distress Brief Support program being led by the Toowoomba Integrated Hub funded by Darling Downs West Moreton Primary Health Network.

The Toowoomba Integrated Mental Health Hub is an innovative new way of providing integrated stepped care in Queensland's mental health and wellbeing system. Wellways, alongside five consortia partners, Each, Lumsden Psychology, Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT) and Goondir, will offer an easy way for people to access seamless care and support for mental health concerns. Services are free, voluntary, and easy to access. The Hub will operate on the principles of 'no wrong door', community inclusion, and consumer choice and control.

We are looking for confident Community-based Trauma Recovery facilitators who are passionate about trauma recovery for people from refugee backgrounds.

We are looking for someone who can compassionately and courageously use their excellent facilitation skills to find ways to engage and empower all those they engage through their work.

Responsibilities

1. Work with community leaders and active community members to co-design and co- facilitate workshops and groups for community members to build cultural identity and shared language around mental health and wellbeing, that achieve outcomes related to healing, belonging, thriving and justice.

2. Provide one on one support to community leaders and active community members on specific topics or community issues.

3. Undertake extensive community engagement to build knowledge of communities' culture and concerns, support community-run healing activities and build relationships of mutual trust

4. Engage in active listening and dialogue to understand recovery needs and barriers across the lifespan within communities.

5. Ensure QPASTT activities are safe for participants across a range of diversities including ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality.

6. Network and engage with stakeholders including community leaders and other community agencies to ensure that QPASTT is collaborative in responding to community need and ensure high quality support is available.

7.  Support team members to deliver appropriate activities which support healing and the opportunity to thrive and belong in the Australian community.

  1. Prepare appropriate documentation and reports and maintain files, records, statistics and evaluation data.

Requirements

1.  Ability to apply QPASTT's healing, belonging, thriving and justice framework to group and community engagement.

2.  Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline such as social work, health promotion, community development, counselling, psychology

3.  Passionate about supporting trauma recovery in a community setting

4.  Demonstrate an understanding of the refugee and settlement experience, as well as the impact of trauma on learning and participant wellbeing and the ability to work across cultures.

5.  High level communication skills and interpersonal skills, including written and oral skills, consultation, negotiation, advocacy, presentation and liaison skills.

6.  Ability to co-design and co-facilitate community-based workshops exploring sensitive topics including trauma, mental health and community healing in an accessible and creative format, using existing materials and new approaches

7.  Ability to provide one on one emotional and practical support to community leaders and active community members

8.  Ability to prepare appropriate documentation; maintain files, records, statistics and data.

  1. Experience in, and ability to, work in partnership with communities and other service

providers to develop innovative strategies for intervention and support group work and community engagement.

Desirable

1.  Experience working in the mental health sector

2.  Experience in trauma informed group facilitation with people from refugee backgrounds

3.  Lived refugee and/or mental health recovery experience

Additional Requirements

1.  Current Positive Notice Blue Card and provision of an annual federal police check;

2.  Current Queensland C Class driver's license;

3.  Willingness to work in Toowoomba and outreach locations including Gatton and Ipswich;

4.  Flexibility to work out of standard hours
