About the Role

We're looking for a skilled
Data Engineer
to play a pivotal role in enabling data-driven decision-making across our business. This role combines technical expertise with collaboration, as you'll design and optimise data pipelines and cloud infrastructure, ensure data quality, and empower analysts and data scientists with the tools and insights they need. If you enjoy solving complex problems, working across diverse teams, and turning raw data into business value, this is the opportunity for you.

The core responsibilities of the role include:

• Partnering with management to understand and prioritise data and information needs across the business.
• Building, maintaining, and optimising data pipelines and architectures to ensure reliable and scalable access to data.
• Developing algorithms and tools that transform raw data into actionable insights for analysts and decision-makers.
• Supporting Data Analysts by enabling self-service reporting and dashboards, and occasionally building these directly.
• Managing and improving cloud infrastructure, including deploying, securing, monitoring, and scaling systems.
• Provisioning and maintaining business intelligence (BI) tools to support reporting and data visualisation.
• Ensuring data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and BI tools are secure, consistent, and highly available through monitoring and validation.
• Assisting with compliance to data governance and security policies.
• Researching, testing, and prototyping new technologies to drive continuous improvement.

Do you have what it takes?

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 3+ years in a similar role.
• Experience with PostgreSQL. Snowflake, or SQL Server would be nice to have.
• Experience with ETL technologies including SQL, Python, Dagster and Fivetran would be nice to have.
• Experience with DevOps including deploying, security hardening, monitoring, and logging on top of Heroku or Azure would be nice to have.
• BI experience would be nice to have, especially with Metabase or Sisense.
• Governance and security experience would be nice to have, especially with sensitive data or frameworks such as SOC2 or Essential 8.
• Values that naturally align with Five Good Friends' values and mission.
