Role Summary

As the founding Senior Data Engineer for Viva 360, you'll design and build the data and AI backbone of Viva Leisure's new analytics platform. This hands-on role focuses on developing scalable data pipelines, machine learning infrastructure, and decision engines that transform raw data into real-time, predictive insights driving member retention, acquisition, and personalisation.

You'll architect and operationalise production-grade systems, implement data governance, and integrate ML models into core business functions. Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with:

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in data engineering, data science, or cloud technologies are desirable.
  • Professional certifications in AWS, Azure, or GCP (Data Engineer focus) are highly regarded.

Skills and Experience

  • 7+ years' experience building and maintaining production-grade data platforms and ML pipelines.
  • Expert in Python (PySpark, pandas) and SQL for data engineering, modelling, and optimisation.
  • Proven experience with cloud-based data services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Skilled in designing data lakehouse architectures, governance frameworks, and scalable ETL/ELT workflows (Airflow, Data Factory, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modelling and ML lifecycle management, including deployment, versioning, and monitoring.
  • Proficient with Git for version control and collaborative development.
  • Familiarity with MLflow, Kafka/Kinesis/Event Hubs, and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) is desirable.
  • Experience working in multi-tenant, regulated data environments handling PII and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
  • Bonus: Experience in fitness, leisure, or subscription-based industries, and knowledge of Australian data privacy standards.
