The Finance team is a unit within the Maritime Operational Support (MOS) function of Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) branch. In your role as Principal Finance Advisor, you will be part of a dynamic, diverse and inclusive team that is committed to providing a high standard of business services to support Maritime Safety Queensland to achieve its objectives and outcomes for the Queensland community.
The Principal Finance Advisor plays a key role in all elements of financial management functions for MSQ.
**Some key responsibilities include the following**:
- Assist the Principal Manager (Finance) in leading the provision of comprehensive financial management services and expertise across the branch to support strong financial governance and accountability, continual improvement, and financial sustainability.
- Prepare quality financial information, reporting, costings, analysis, advice and submissions for consideration by management and other stakeholders, including throughout the annual budget cycle and end of year.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships across a range of stakeholder groups.
- Proactively support the Principal Manager (Finance) in building the efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance unit.
- Provide support and advice to managers through a high level understanding of business requirements and proactive provision of financial services to support business priorities.
- Proactively develop and manage delivery of financial planning, budgeting, financial management and financial system solutions in support of the business areas.
**Mandatory qualifications and conditions**:
- Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
- Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in Accountancy or a related discipline is highly desirable.
**Requirements of the role**:
- Demonstrated high level knowledge and expertise in financial management to ensure strong financial governance and accountability, continual improvement in financial management practices employed across the branch, and to support decision making and financial sustainability.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of contemporary financial management information systems and tools and the ability to translate this knowledge into business improvements and innovation.
- Demonstrated ability to assist the Principal Manager to coach and monitor the performance of the team and assist with service delivery to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the unit.
- High level interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication style to a range of stakeholders, including communication of technical content and training.
- Proven ability to build enduring relationships and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholder to achieve organisational objectives and priorities.
