**Who we are**

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it,
- protect the Antarctic environment,
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system,
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

Operations & Logistics Branch plan, coordinate, facilitate and deliver operations for the Australian Antarctic Program by safely resupplying and sustaining the Antarctic Stations and building operational capacity to deliver future Antarctic projects.

The Station & Field Operations Section is responsible for coordinating and providing operational support for science and other designated projects and programs. The section oversees leadership, management and sustainment of Australia’s four Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations, coordination and support of field activities including deep field capability, provision of clothing and kitting for all expeditioners, deep field capability and inland station operations.

**The Job**

Under broad direction and guidance from the Field & Clothing Systems Coordinator, this role performs all the tasks and inventory management required by the AAD Clothing Store. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Conduct stock takes
- Order, launder and rotate/sort cold climate clothing and related kit consistent with AAD job specific requirements and allocated templates
- Facilitate the communications with Expeditioners and technical representatives and/or project leaders around kitting issue in advance of flights or voyages
- Work collaboratively with the Station and Field Operations Procurement Officers to maintain adequate stock levels in advance of, and throughout, the operational season - including liaison with technical line areas (e.g. Shipping, Polar Med, Mechanical), stations and Suppliers.

**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
- Experience and sound knowledge of warehousing and stock control operating practices.
- Understanding of stores safety, including Workplace Health and Safety.
- Proficient in the use of computers and information systems for the management of stock, records and standard Microsoft Office suite programs.

**Skills and capabilities**
- At times the nature of the work, timings and scheduling will have a high degree of unpredictability therefore applicants need to be flexible, resilient and have the ability to adapt and refocus in response to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel).
- Strong written and oral communications.

This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The merit pool may be accessed to fill vacancies for similar roles within the AAD or across the APS over the next 18 months.

**Desirable Qualifications**
- Forklift operator licence.
