**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to: -maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it -protect the Antarctic environment -understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system -undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance. The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.
The Operations and Logistics Branch, coordinates, facilitates and delivers operations for the Australian Antarctic Program by safely resupplying and sustaining the Antarctic Stations, facilitating terrestrial and marine science programs and builds operational capacity to deliver future Antarctic projects.
The Marine Science Delivery Section is a key element of the branch and manages the strategic planning and coordination to deliver full capability and safe use of RSV Nuyina’s science systems for approved marine science activities within the Australian Antarctic Program. Key Functions of the Marine Science Delivery Section include:
- Coordinating marine science voyage planning, project delivery, and internal and external stakeholder engagement.
- Support the management of RSV Nuyina’s science spaces, equipment, and facilities including laboratories for use by scientific teams.
- Management of RSV Nuyina science system related port call and maintenance period work programs.
**The Job**
The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Provide support to the Marine Science Delivery Team by fostering a strong culture of safety, inclusion, equity and flexibility.
- Support the procurement requirements and processes of the Marine Science Delivery Team, in accordance with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPR’s).
- Develop and review key operational documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Risk Assessments, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Project management and delivery of multidisciplinary marine science projects for the Australian Antarctic Program within tight timeframes and a complex and changing environment.
- Develop and maintain solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes, resolve issues and facilitate cooperation to ensure the successful delivery of marine science campaigns.
- Support the implementation and use of the Marine Science Delivery's marine science project planning and management system. This includes providing direction and support on specific issues and project requirement, including project feasibility assessments.
- Coordinate and manage cross-branch activities, navigating operational conflicts and responding effectively to unexpected changes.
- Develop and implement processes and activities that support the organisational strategic direction in using and managing marine science facilities.
- Support the management of RSV Nuyina science laboratories, spaces, facilities and equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks.
- Ensure appropriate records management standards are adhered to by the Marine Science Delivery section.

- Self-motivated, proactive, adaptable and able to align competing priorities with strategic direction
- Highly developed communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop and support quality working relationships with various stakeholders
- Ability to prioritise tasks and inform decision-making around resource allocation and milestone delivery.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of stakeholder presentations, briefings and training programs.
- A demonstrated understanding of relevant WH&S and environmental management principles and practices.
**Knowledge and experience**
- Demonstrated experience planning, administering and conduct of multi-disciplinary marine science projects with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, scientific facilities and equipment and records management.
- Highly developed problem-solving capabilities and the capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and deliver high quality outputs in a dynamic work environment.
- Strong understanding of and experience in project management and prioritisation of activities to meet Australian Antarctic Program objectives.
