Midsumma is not only the host of the renowned Midsumma Festival but also actively engages in year-round national initiatives, providing artists with development and commissioning projects. Our commitment extends to intersectional diverse communities, making Midsumma a driving force in the cultural landscape.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to step into the senior and hands-on role of Marketing and Communications Manager on an initial 2-year contract. Collaborating closely with our Chief Executive, Programming staff, and diverse communities, you will play a pivotal role in supporting Midsumma's artistic and cultural objectives during this exciting period of growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Marketing Strategy Development: Plan, schedule, and implement marketing, promotional, and positioning campaigns incorporating online/digital technology, PR, signage, and printed collateral.
- Collaboration and Analysis: Work closely with the Program Manager and Events and Producer Services Manager to analyse ticket sales, monitor and report on ongoing performance, and develop strategies to maximise event profile and ticket sales.
- Resource Utilisation: Efficiently use all available marketing resources, leverage media partnerships, and collaborate with external PR agencies to optimise festival visibility.
- Contra Sponsorships Management: Oversee contra sponsorships from media and
- marketing suppliers, ensuring contractual arrangements are met for maximum impact.
- Media Archiving: Ensure the delivery and archiving of suitable photographic and other marketing materials representing the Festival.
Typical Tasks:
- Campaign Development: Develop and execute marketing campaigns for the Midsumma multi-arts annual program, curated events, and open-access event producers.
- Content Creation: Write copy and produce content for all communication channels, including digital platforms, printed collateral, and post-festival reports.
- Social Media Management: Manage the overall social media presence for the festival, ensuring consistent and engaging content.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work in collaboration with the digital and website coordinator, external PR consultants, and relevant festival partners.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Liaise with external survey companies and ticketing staff/venues to collate required statistics, prepare reports, and contribute to evaluation processes.
- Graphic Design Coordination: Coordinate all graphic design and printing requirements with external agencies.
- Stakeholder Relationships: Develop and ensure positive relationships with festival
- stakeholders, providing timely information and assistance with launches and functions.
- Communication Strategy: Develop and execute a strategy to maximise the positioning of Midsumma through effective communication channels.
- Funding Submissions and Grant Servicing: In consultation with the Chief Executive, assist with the preparation and collation of information for funding submissions and the servicing of grants for Midsumma, as required.
Key Competencies:
- Arts/Cultural Events Marketing: Demonstrated experience in arts/cultural events marketing with a focus on online and digital engagement.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention
- to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
- Media Networks: Knowledge and contacts within Victorian and national media networks.
- Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated analytical, conceptual, and strategic
- thinking with a collaborative and flexible approach to problem-solving.
- People Management: High-level people management skills, positive engagement with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to information sharing.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office, Photoshop/lnDesign, databases, and
- willingness to learn and use various systems (e.g., Campaign Monitor, Macarto Festival Management, Red61 Ticketing).
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work well in a team, contribute to a positive organisational culture, and commitment to organisational values and equality.
- Negotiation Skills: Negotiation skills and the ability to handle difficult situations in a positive and constructive manner.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Demonstrated respect and empathy for members of diverse communities, particularly LGBTQIA+ and DGS communities.
