The Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer. More than 40 years on, our vision remains unchanged - to save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research.
You will be primarily responsible for bioinformatics analysis of internal and publicly available datasets, as well as publishing manuscripts of the data generated by the PIVOT team.
**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
- You carry out bioinformatics analysis of internally generated and publicly available datasets to:
- identify new targets for drug intervention in paediatric acute leukaemia; and
- identify molecular biomarkers predictive of in vivo responses to anti-leukaemic drugs.
- You liaise with the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics groups in the Institute, and the data analysis teams of the PIVOT Coordinating Center, to facilitate analysis of bioinformatics datasets.
- You interact with the internal PIVOT team to draft manuscripts of preclinical drug testing data generated internally.
- You support junior members of the team in their written assignments.
- You work in collaboration with other members of the preclinical drug testing team in the Leukaemia Biology Group and complete
- You prepare and complete written assignments as directed by the Program Head of the Leukaemia Biology Group and share new publishing methods.
**Qualifications, experience, and skills required**:
Essential:
- PhD in the field of science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in the analysis of RNA-seq and other Next
- Generation Sequencing data using bioinformatics techniques.
- Excellent scientific writing skills.
- Demonstrated track record of at least one senior author publication.
- Excellent attention to detail and proof-reading skills.
- Ability to work in a team.
Desirable:
- PhD in the field of cancer research.
- Prior experience in the field of cancer research.
- Prior experience in working with animal models of cancer.
