**About the Australian Museum**

**About the role**
The Scientific Officer is responsible for collecting and synthesizing the geological, geochemical, and palaeontological data to establish a taphonomic model. The role will conduct integrative geochemical and palaeontological investigation to conduct research on the taphonomy or iron rich fossil sites.
**About you**
We are seeking a palaeontologist with experience in taphonomy and geochemistry.
You will have:
- A PhD in palaeontology or a related dicipline
- Experience working with fossils specimens, ideally in a museum environment
- Experience working on palaeontological excavations
- Demonstrated experience inferring environmental characteristics of fossil sites
- Demonstrated experience writing and publishing papers in international scientific journals

**Knowledge & Experience**
- Current knowledge and working experience to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this Role Description
