This position is responsible for effectively
managing the provision of counselling and
mental health programs provided to current
QUT students. In addition to working directly
to provide professional counselling services,
this position will also work collaboratively with
the intake and assessment service in triaging
and referring students to relevant support
services both internal and external to QUT.

The position will provide day-to-day leadership
to a small team of internal counsellors,
providing support with complex case
management. In addition, the position will
manage the engagement and relationship with
external contractors providing counselling
support within the service.

The Manager, Counselling and Mental Health
Programs contributes to the achievement of
Student Services and Wellbeing’s strategic
objectives by operationalising and reviewing
services, programs, systems and procedures.

This position reports to the Associate Director,
Health and Wellbeing for supervision, workload
management and for Performance Planning
and Review (PPR).

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Manage the provision of counselling and

mental health services provided to current
QUT students.
- Manage and supervise all aspects of high
- quality professional service delivery,
including the engagement, supervision and
development of a high performance
counselling team, to achieve organisational
objectives.
- Provide high quality professional

counselling services direct to a diverse
variety of domestic and international
students.
- Provide advice and leadership to staff

managing complex student matters, and
critical incidents.
- Work collaboratively with the intake and

assessment team triaging students seeking
mental health support.
- Design, develop and implement a range of

mental health strategies and services to
improve and facilitate mental health care of
students.
- Identify priorities and develop innovative

operational plans to achieve the strategic
objectives of Student Services in
consultation with SSW leadership.
- Lead, implement and evaluate activities that

drive continuous improvement in service
delivery.
- Collaborate with a range of stakeholders

both internal and external to facilitate a
seamless student experience.
- Provide strategic advice and leadership on

policies and programs related to student
mental health and well-being.
- Monitor relevant research and best practice

developments across the sector and
provide advice to the university on student
well-being issues.
- Compliance with health and safety policies,

procedures, hazard reporting and safe work
practices.
To ensure job flexibility the successful
appointee may be required to:

- perform any other duties as nominated by

the University consistent with the relevant
classification descriptors detailed in the
Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking
any new duties will receive training;
- participate in job rotation or multiskilling in

consultation with their supervisor;
- work across campuses

**Type of appointment**

This appointment will be offered on an
ongoing, full-time basis.

Selection Criteria

1. Postgraduate qualifications (or equivalent)
in Psychology or Social Work, with
significant relevant experience, and
registration with the Australian Health
Practitioner Regulation Agency or
Membership of the Australian Association
of Social Workers.

2. Proven management experience within a
clinical environment including the
demonstrated ability to conceptualise and
operationalise strategies, plans, policies
and processes that reflect industry best
practice.

3. Proven effective leadership and
management skills that drive team work,
high performance and excellence in
service provision within professional work
contexts.

4. High level interpersonal, negotiation and
communication skills with a demonstrated
ability to collaborate and connect with a
diverse range of stakeholders.

5. Demonstrated success in leading and
supporting cultural and organisational
change within a large, complex
organisation in pursuit of service
excellence.

**Remuneration and Benefits**

The classification for this position is Higher
Education Worker Level 9 (HEW9) which has
an annual remuneration range of $140,414 to
$147,095 pa. Which is inclusive of an annual
salary range of $118,652 to $124,297 pa, 17%
superannuation, and leave loading.
