Youth Detention Operations and Reform is responsible for supporting best practice youth detention service delivery in Queensland.

**Key activities of the team include**:

- Developing operational policy and procedures to guide the practice and operations of youth detention service delivery and other places of secure custody for young people (including watchhouses and court cells).
- Providing practice support for staff, stakeholders and services working with young people in youth detention centres.
- Leading major practice improvement projects.
- Responding to oversight functions and actioning recommendations.
- Administering a range of statutory reporting functions.

**The Manager's key responsibilities are**:

- Lead the implementation of a Safety, Health and Wellbeing Framework for youth detention centres and lead and manage the development of youth detention centre specific safety management system procedures, in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and manage the development of strategies and initiatives to collaboratively work to mitigate and/or manage risk, including physical and psychological risk, with an aim of reducing workplace related injuries and/or illness and provide for continuous improvement across all youth detention centres.
- Lead, support, coach and mentor a team of geographically dispersed Principal Advisors and Safety, Wellbeing and Injury Management Advisors to develop safe systems of work, including policy and procedural development for work health and safety.
- Support and provide high-level, strategic and expert advice to Youth Detention Centre (YDC) Executive Directors (ED's) in regards to due diligence and legislative obligations under the various pieces of legislation
- Provide expert advice on matters relating to work health and safety, including the effective management of workplace incidents, WorkCover claims, and return to work programs.
- Monitor compliance with work health and safety legislation and identify strategic initiatives to improve health and safety within youth detention centres.
- Transform health and safety statistics into meaningful trend analysis and risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead the development and implementation of wellbeing programs and initiatives.
- Lead, develop, maintain and promote significant stakeholder engagement including with senior leaders, nominated health and safety representatives, union officials and inter-governmental networks, particularly WorkCover, and QSuper.
- Actively attend and participate in youth detention centre work health and safety reviews and Injury Case Management meetings.
- Prepare high level briefs, correspondence and reporting about youth detention centre specific health, safety and wellbeing matters.
- Provide expert advice to various committees and boards, including consultative and workplace health and safety committees.
