About us
The College exists to inform and enrich the Victorian judiciary by providing ongoing education and professional development and support to judges, magistrates, coroners and tribunal members.
Highly respected by the legal profession, the College helps judicial officers maximise every precious hour they can devote to education by carefully curating their learning experiences. The College also brings judicial officers together so they can share their collective wisdom with each other, and connects them with leaders from an array of other disciplines who can offer different perspectives.
About the Role
The Legal Research Officer makes a key contribution to the College's library of publications by researching, writing and updating College resources, including those specifically relevant to County Court judges engaged in sentencing.
**Primary duties include**: - Analyse and summarise County Court and Victorian Court of Appeal sentencing decisions for inclusion in the Victorian Sentencing Manual
- Undertake legal and non-legal research and analysis in areas of sentencing and criminal law as required
- Attend to online publishing as required (training/support will be provided on the relevant publishing software)
- Coordinate and review the output of university interns undertaking placements within the Team as required.
About You
You have a tertiary qualification in law, and have knowledge and understanding of the Victorian justice system, in particular of court processes and the requirements of sentencing; with prior experience in legal research, legal practice or legal policy.
You have well developed legal and non-legal research and analytical skills, complemented by excellent editing and plain language legal writing skills.
