As Legal Officer, Research and Information Analyst (employed under Part 4 of the Parliamentary Administration Act 2005: ‘electorate officer') you will work in the Office of Nick McGowan MP, Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Scrutiny of Government, and will be primarily responsible for public policy and parliamentary information retrieval and management, research, analysis, constituency advice, and other related duties.
About the Role You will play an important role in providing services to assist the Member of Parliament. Your work will require a high degree of trust and integrity. Confidentiality is a key requirement when interacting with all stakeholders, including constituents and visitors to the office or in the community.

**Your key responsibilities include**:

- Collecting and managing information and research, including on practices, policies and programmes, including on matters of interest to constituents.
- Drafting information briefs and providing advice in respect to specific research and information.
- Undertaking reviews, investigating and interrogating public expenditure and collecting information pertinent to sound public administration and practices, including its instrumentalities and various bodies.
- Engaging and responding as appropriate to scrutiny of government requests.
- Engaging as required with the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC), the Victorian Ombudsman and the Victorian Auditor-General's Office
- Initiating detailed and coordinated requests for information from any public or private agency or body, including for matters of interest to constituents.
- Undertaking projects and general administrative tasks, including written briefs, letters, speeches, and providing advice.
- Creating and capturing accurate and complete records of the activities undertaken in the course of this position.
- Any other reasonable and related duties as required.

**You will preferably have the following skills and experience**:

- A thorough knowledge of the operation of law, legislation and regulations, particularly administrative law, including freedom of information law.
- The ability to analyse and interpret information, legislative and public policy documents.
- Previous experience in information retrieval, analysis, management and reporting.
- Previous experience working for a law firm, international or government agency or body.
- A law degree is preferable (with or without having obtained a practising certificate).
