About the role*
The purpose of this position is to work within the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) framework and provide programs and support to at risk and vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families to ensure they have the information, knowledge and skills to make informed choices and reduce risk factors.

The Aboriginal Youth Worker (AYW) will have a focus on early intervention and the role requires exceptional planning & time management skills as well as the ability to effectively facilitate group programs that are culturally safe and delivered with a person-centred, holistic focus.

The position requires strong cultural sensitivity and the utmost confidentiality with a willingness to go outside one’s comfort zone to enable better outcomes for young people and their families. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to engage and connect with young people and community is essential to this position.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate activities/ programs to target improving wellbeing and engagement of young people.
- Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in a 1-2-1/mentoring capacity from 10-18.
- Support to plan and develop broader events and initiatives to support and strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people’s connection to culture and community
- Have strong links to culturally appropriate referral pathways and other services that deliver supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
- Work effectively and professionally within Schools and with key stakeholders includes Principals, Deputies Principal, teaching staff, Counsellors and Wellbeing Units. Support teaching staff to deliver culturally appropriate programs
- Actively promote the service to the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community

**About You**
- You have lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
- You have experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Communities or Case Work is highly regarded
- Cert IV Youth Work or equivalent qualification, or willingness to obtain
