Behavioural Risk Specialist
**The role**
As a member of the APRA Non-Financial Risk (NFR) team you will work through a range of initiatives to support APRA's frontline teams in the enhancement of Australian Financial Services.
The scope of works will include the supervision of regulated entities through understanding data, prudential reviews and meetings, responding to material events in industry, and driving the way we transform our understanding of Non-Financial Risk, internally and in industry, through targeted programs of work aligned to the APRA corporate plan.
**The team**
The Non-Financial Risk (NFR) team plays a critical role in ensuring that risks are identified and managed leading to more resilient organisations as an outcome.
**Key responsibilities**
- Application of a "behavioural lens" on prudential matters, i.e. assessing and influencing behaviour and decisions relating to risk management
- Quality supervision outcomes by leading prudential reviews (focusing on risk culture and behavioural risks) and engaging with regulated entities to drive improvement in risk outcomes
- Develop insightful behavioural observations based on the content of qualitative and quantitative information on Non-Financial Risk for the consumption of non-specialists
- Effectively respond to material risk events by working with multiple internal teams and external agencies to facilitate a coordinated response and communication
- Stakeholder engagement providing contemporary and relevant specialist advice to internal stakeholders. Participate and add value to internal and external working groups by providing specialist advice
- Service to APRA by identifying and championing continuous improvement opportunities for team efficiency and effectiveness
- Maintain relevant policy and guidance for Australian financial services by contributing to the review and uplift of APRA's policy and legislative requirements as needed.
**About you**
You are a critical evaluator of information and can generate insightful and actionable behavioural insights that relate to risk management. You will possess:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate nuanced concepts and findings to different audiences, e.g. APRA stakeholders and external entities
- Experience leading behavioural/cultural reviews, including leading interviews and focus groups to gather qualitative insights, and interpreting survey findings
- Substantial organisational, self and priority management skills, including proven ability to lead strategic engagement externally and coordinating cross-divisional processes
- Prior experience in risk management, financial services and/or regulation is not essential, but beneficial.
To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Baseline Security clearance.
**About APRA**
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) places you at the heart of Australia's financial services industry. APRA serves the Australian community by helping ensure financial institutions deliver on the financial commitments they make, within a stable, efficient and competitive financial system.
At APRA we're committed to providing an inclusive workplace where everyone belongs, feels valued and respected. We aspire to attract and foster diversity of background, thought, and experience, recognising that a broad range of perspectives, approaches and ideas makes us stronger, and better enables us to meet our obligation to protect the financial wellbeing of the Australian community. When applying, please inform us of any adjustments you may need during the interview process.
