**The Role**
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Division within the Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to fill the EL1 Business Manager. The Business Manager will be responsible for standing up a small team to provide business management support to the CTO and the Division’s three branches. You will exercise autonomy and demonstrate leadership by developing and managing a cohesive team to achieve strategic outcomes.

As Business Manager, you will need to quickly understand the environment and stakeholders so you can develop strategies to support the Division in delivery of its priorities. You will be required to identify and implement process improvement opportunities for business management activities, along with providing support by developing business strategies, plans and processes, and exercising initiative to deliver results.

In this role you will plan ahead, anticipate changes and exercise initiative. You will take responsibility, think strategically, exercise judgement, make decisions in a fast-paced, continually changing environment, solve problems and manage stakeholders. You will also contribute more broadly to support the Division in delivering its priorities.

As Business Manager, you will drive business management support by managing priority workloads, researching and analysing information, providing advice, making recommendations, and writing reports. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating and reporting on Human Resource requirements and associated tasks, managing reporting on finance, procurement and contracting, and supporting the CTO with the day-to-day management of the Division.

**About our Team**
The Chief Technology Officer Division is responsible for defining the future information and communications technology (ICT) capabilities, which enable our Defence military and business operations personnel to Defend Australia and its National Interests.

We do this by:

- Defining and implementing the strategic direction for ICT within Defence
- Performing the role of Single Information Environment (SIE) Technical Authority, which includes setting technical standards and providing technical advice to the Joint Force Authority and Capability Managers
- Ensuring Defence has a modern, secure and scalable enterprise ICT architecture
- Assisting the CIO as the Capability Manager of the Enterprise ICT Program

You will have demonstrated capability to manage a diverse team of people to deliver capability outcomes in a high tempo work environment. You will have the ability to deliver clear and compelling communication to Defence senior leaders. You will display strong personal drive and integrity, with the ability to work independently. You will have the ability to work collaboratively, providing leadership and guidance to a team and developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders, particularly Defence People Group and Defence Finance Group. This role requires the ability to work effectively within the Division and Group.

You will show flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of our work and have the agility to realign resourcing to meet the new demand. You will be a leader who provides support and guidance to your team to ensure they are sensitive to Defence strategic direction and equipped to excel in their capabilities. As someone who is interested in self-development, you will keep your knowledge current and relevant which will enable you to provide solutions to complex issues.
