You will be a front-line leader, possess a strong background in native title law and related legal matters, including in depth knowledge of statutory and contractual obligations related to Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage, and experience in negotiating and drafting agreements. A key component of this role will be to contribute to setting direction and parameters on commercial terms of Native Title Agreements, this will include your strategic advice to the established (internal) TLO Reference Committee. By building strong relationships, your expertise will provide specialist native title legal and strategic advice to the business and direct across our MinRes’ projects/operations. This position will report directly to the General Manager Communities and Heritage, you will have ability to join a broader Heritage and Native Title Leadership team and be based at our MinRes HQ Office located in Osborne Park. **Key deliverables**: - Lead the negotiations on new agreements and the modernisation of existing agreements. - Negotiate the commercial terms within the commercial parameters approved by the TLO Reference Committee and Managing Director. - Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Native Title Groups and Traditional Owners. - Develop and implement strategies for the successful negotiation of Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage agreements required for the conduct of all of MinRes’ developments and operations, including a global and consistent approach wherever possible. - Draft and negotiate the terms of MinRes’ Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage agreements (in conjunction with Relationship and Commercial teams), including engaging internal and external legal counsel as required. - Advise on statutory requirements relevant to Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage, including processing of future acts and changes in law, and development of any required internal strategies and procedures to ensure compliance. - Conduct due diligence on the Native Title status and requirements for new projects and acquisitions by MinRes and provide strategic advice on approaches to business development opportunities. - Relevant reporting and liaison with internal and external stakeholders **What you’ll bring to the team**: - Tertiary qualifications in Law or equivalent in similar field or related discipline - Current legal practising certificate - 5+ years legal experience in Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage matters - Significant post qualification experience, with experience in a similar senior legal / corporate counsel role for resources company highly desirable. - Proven track record of successfully advising on a wide range of legal issues, including at senior management / executive level. - Demonstrated experience in leading the agreement making processes with Native Title Groups - Demonstrated expertise in working through a networked organisation to achieve results. - Experience working with management teams in mining and resources or contract management. - Ability to interpret complex legislation and agreements, manage risk and assurance. - Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills. - The ability to work in changing environments and problem solve **And then there’s the extra benefits** We look after our people because they’re the ones looking after our business.
