**About the role**
As Program Officer (Natural Environment - Fire) you will be part of the Natural Environment and Land Management Section and will be responsible for the management of fire planning and fire risk management within the Ipswich City Council Natural Area Networks. Your focus will be on coordinating, supporting, and guiding the development and delivery of operational plans, programs, policies, procedures, and guidelines with a focus on fire, fire regimes, ecological and hazard reduction burns and fuel load management.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

- Procure and oversee contracted services for the delivery of the operational works program for fire risk management across Council’s Natural Area Network and beyond
- Continuously develop and enhance land and fire management related strategies and projects through research and development
- Collect, collate, and assess data to inform decision-making around management options for the natural environment to best balance threats to life and property with positive environmental outcomes
- Liaise with other relevant sections of Council where required (e.g., Emergency Management Unit)
- Respond to community and stakeholder concerns regarding bushfire risk and management within Ipswich City Council’s Natural Area Network.

**About you**
To be successful in this role you will have:
**Mandatory**
- An excellent fit with our values of communication, collaboration, integrity, efficiency, and leadership
- A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related discipline; and/or the ability to demonstrate the equivalent knowledge and experience
- Current Queensland “C” Class Driver’s Licence
- A minimum of two years of ‘on the ground’ experience in a relevant field.

**Desirable**
- Possession of recognised bushland firefighting qualifications or training
- Training in Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) or equivalent knowledge and experience
- GIS and data management skills in competency systems - (QGIS Arc GIS)

This is a permanent full-time position at Level 4-6 with a salary package commencing at $82,260 per annum plus superannuation of up to 12.25%
