The role
Reporting to the Director of Policy, the Principal Policy Officer is responsible for identifying and analysing critical and emergent health-related policy issues and developing strategic state-wide policies in priority areas to enable Queensland Health to efficiently and effectively discharge its system manager functions.
Provide timely and well-researched strategic policy advice to senior management in Queensland Health and to the Minister for Health in relation to Queensland Health's position at a whole-of-government level. Establish and maintain networks with internal and external stakeholders, including with experts in relevant policy areas to obtain accurate and timely advice and guidance regarding the development and implementation of policy.Provide expert level advice and direction to Queensland Health divisions, state-wide clinical networks, Hospital and Health Services and other stakeholders and ensure is consistent with Queensland Health and government priorities and policies.
Represent Queensland Health at an inter-agency level to progress and resolve policy issues. Oversee, formulate, and manage the development and implementation of appropriate Branch and Departmental strategic and inter-agency policies, protocols, and communication strategies. Lead and manage consultation processes with internal, external and government stakeholders in development of data and information that informs strategic policy and programs. Coach, mentor and support project teams to achieve defined outcomes.
The successful person
The successful applicant will be a strong leader with experience managing teams and leading policy projects. You will be a strong negotiator with a proven track record in engaging with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. You will have a demonstrated ability to prepare high
- quality written materials, such as briefs and correspondence, for a range of audiences. You will have knowledge of national and state strategic direction and priorities in relation to health system reform.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships across the health system, including cross sector government and non-government, primary care and acute health system.
- Strategic, conceptual, critical thinking, and analytical capability relevant to a range of social and health priority areas and a proven track record in identifying, negotiating, influencing, and implementing solutions to complex problems.
- Project management skills, including the capability to develop, implement, analyse, and evaluate policy and program-related projects.
- Written and oral communication, consultation, and negotiation skills, including the ability to prepare and present major and complex policy-related reports, and to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment, and with key community and individual stakeholders.
